POSITION TITLE: Digital Content Producer
REPORTS TO: News Management
Position Summary: This role is responsible for curating high-performing content on digital platforms, updating the local website, and crafting homepage headlines and placement based on data and trends. Being nimble when reporting the news --- everything from quick-hit local stories to breaking news and enterprise reports. This role is critical and will work on building our current audience by being responsive to traffic patterns, audience interest, and serving our legacy station brand. This role is also responsible for placing content on social platforms.
Position Responsibilities:
- Thorough knowledge of journalistic principles, ethics, and standards.
- Strong news judgment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs, and social) and be quick to report breaking news stories and always on the hunt for exclusive and/or trending content that will grow engagement and drive loyal, local traffic
- Prioritize packaging content using headline testing, metric tools, and observed patterns to guide decision-making
- Understand different ways to tell a story, particularly producing short videos and choosing photos
- Reviews copy and will correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
- Optimize broadcast content for digital audiences and social media platforms.
- Promote and distribute news content on social media in creative and meaningful ways.
- Flexibility in work schedules that often include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Skill/ Experience Requirements
- Degree in journalism; daily newspaper or news site experience required; live, working web samples and/or print pages preferred.
- Equivalent experience with a combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and other office equipment
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- OBS experience is a plus, or other relevant technology skills
- Maintain positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments
- Responds positively to feedback
