Your role: Music Programmer, Classic FM
Do you have a deep love for classical music and a sharp instinct for what sounds great on-air? Are you excited by the idea of curating music that reaches millions every week? As Music Programmer at Classic FM, you’ll help shape the musical heartbeat of the UK’s most popular classical music station – ensuring every programme we broadcast is musically rich and totally audience-focused.
With 4.7 million listeners tuning in each week and over 8.5 million followers across social media, Classic FM has introduced generations of new listeners to classical music. From much-loved masterpieces to fresh new recordings, you’ll work behind the scenes to select the music for programmes hosted by household names. You’ll work closely with the Senior Music Programmer (your line manager) and the wider production team, supporting themed content, seasonal moments and the day-to-day running of our world-class music library.
Key Responsibilities
Music scheduling (70%): You’ll support the daily music output of Classic FM by scheduling logs in GSelector and ensuring that the music for each programme meets our high editorial and musical standards. You’ll work to agreed templates, policies and deadlines, contributing to a consistent, polished and listener-focused sound.
Music planning & support (20%): You’ll help maintain and develop Classic FM’s extensive music database, loading audio and ensuring metadata and PRS/PPL reporting is accurate and up to date. You’ll support the Senior Music Programmer with themed programming, special events and repertoire planning, contributing to the smooth rollout of our music policy.
Collaboration & editorial delivery (10%): You’ll work closely with producers and presenters to ensure music complements the editorial tone of each programme. You’ll also help identify new recordings and performance opportunities for the station.
