Position Summary
The Procurement Specialist is responsible for optimizing the acquisition of goods and services to ensure continuity of supply, quality, compliance, and cost effectiveness. This role manages supplier relationships, executes purchasing activities, and supports sourcing and procurement processes across assigned commodities or services.
 

The Procurement Specialist operates independently within established policies and procedures and serves as a primary liaison between the organization and its suppliers for day-to-day operational and tactical procurement needs.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing activities for assigned materials, services, or commodities to meet operational demand.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with suppliers regarding requirements, pricing, lead times, inventory builds, and delivery performance.

  • Issue and manage purchase orders from approved and qualified suppliers with sufficient lead time to prevent material shortages.

  • Monitor supplier performance and maintain accurate supplier history, pricing, and purchasing data.

  • Resolve delivery, quality, quantity, cost, and invoicing discrepancies in coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

  • Participate in supplier meetings to evaluate service levels, cost reduction opportunities, quality improvements, and new product options.

  • Support cost savings initiatives through sourcing changes, system improvements, or process enhancements.

  • Process procurement documentation, including capital acquisition requests as applicable.

  • Communicate procurement status, risks, and updates to internal customers.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with purchasing, accounting, ethical, and compliance standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 0-4 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or a related purchasing role.

  • Working knowledge of general procurement processes and supplier management.

  • Ability to operate independently within established procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in regulated (FDA/GMP) or manufacturing environments.

  • Experience with cost/price analysis, negotiations, and ERP or MRP systems.

  • Knowledge of inventory control, forecasting, and supplier performance metrics.
