The Buyer partners with stakeholders and suppliers to improve cost, quality, service, compliance, and continuity of supply while supporting a consistent, efficient procure-to-pay experience.

The position executes sourcing events, supplier evaluations, negotiations, purchase orders, and supplier relationship activities for assigned indirect categories. It analyzes spend and total cost of ownership, supports contract and risk-management processes, resolves procurement exceptions, and ensures transactions comply with company policies, approval requirements, and regulatory standards. The Buyer also uses procurement technologies and operational reporting to identify savings, improve processes, and provide responsive support to internal stakeholders and suppliers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements, define scopes, develop sourcing strategies, and establish evaluation criteria for assigned indirect spend categories.
  • Conduct requests for information, request for proposal, request for quotation, and competitive bidding activities; coordinate supplier communications, bid analysis, evaluations, and award recommendations.
  • Analyze spend, pricing, market conditions, demand, and total cost of ownership to identify savings, cost avoidance, consolidation, and value-improvement opportunities.
  • Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, service levels, delivery requirements, and other business terms within delegated authority, partnering with Sourcing, Legal, Finance, Risk, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Support contract development, review, approval, execution, renewal, and obligation tracking to ensure agreements accurately reflect business requirements and negotiated outcomes.
  • Evaluate and recommend suppliers based on cost, quality, service, capacity, risk, compliance, innovation, and business continuity considerations.
  • Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships; support performance reviews, corrective action plans, issue resolution, continuous improvement, and risk-mitigation activities.
  • Procure products and services at the best overall value consistent with quality, reliability, timing, risk, and urgency of need.
  • Create, review, and process requisitions, purchase orders, change orders, and related procurement transactions in accordance with company standards, approval authority, policies, and procedures.
  • Review non-standard and lower-complexity purchases, recommend appropriate sourcing approaches, and resolve purchasing, receiving, invoicing, catalog, and payment exceptions with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Ensure sourcing and purchasing activities comply with procurement policies, competitive-bidding requirements, approval controls, ethical standards, contractual obligations, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate sourcing files, bid documentation, approvals, supplier records, contracts, pricing, and audit support documentation.
  • Use procure-to-pay, sourcing, contract lifecycle management, supplier management, and ERP systems to execute work, maintain data quality, and support effective controls.
  • Maintain assigned catalogs, pricing, supplier content, and reference data; communicate relevant changes to users and stakeholders.
  • Create and review reports and dashboards for spend, savings, purchase orders, invoices, supplier performance, cycle times, compliance, aging, and other procurement indicators.
  • Manage multiple sourcing and procurement projects simultaneously, providing timely status updates, escalating risks, and driving actions to completion.
  • Support procurement system enhancements, testing, user acceptance testing, training, deployment, and adoption; troubleshoot user and supplier issues and coordinate support tickets when needed.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and strengthen sourcing and procure-to-pay processes.
  • Provide procurement process, policy, and system guidance to employees and suppliers, including job aids or training as needed.
  • Perform other sourcing, procurement, systems, and special-project duties as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Commercial and sourcing acumen with the ability to evaluate supplier proposals, negotiate effectively, and make sound recommendations.
  • Data-driven, analytical mindset with the ability to translate spend, market, supplier, and operational data into actionable insights.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to influence decisions and explain procurement requirements clearly.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, remove roadblocks, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative, proactive, customer-focused approach that builds trust with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, problem-solving ability, and commitment to ethical conduct and compliance.
  • Continuous-improvement mindset and ability to learn new procurement tools, technologies, categories, and business processes quickly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, procurement, business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in indirect sourcing, purchasing, procurement, category support, or a related corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting competitive sourcing events, analyzing bids, negotiating commercial terms, preparing supplier recommendations, and processing purchase orders.
