About the role:
UpEnergy Malawi is at a time of exciting growth, and rapid expansion, requiring a dynamic and results-driven Procurement and Supply Chain Manager to oversee and optimize our supply chain operations thereby supporting UpEnergy’s mission of expanding access to clean energy solutions across Malawi.
This role will be responsible for managing end-to-end supply chain activities, from procurement and production coordination to warehousing, distribution, logistics, and inventory management, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with company standards.
The Procurement and Supply Chain Manager will report directly to the Country Director, and work closely with the country team/country leadership team
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead development and execution of strategic supply chain plans that align with organizational objectives, ensuring cross-functional coordination across procurement, production, warehousing, and distribution.
- Own sourcing strategy, supplier selection, and contract negotiation processes to secure high-quality inputs at optimal total cost of ownership.
- Direct relationships with local manufacturing partners to ensure production schedules, quality standards, and capacity plans are met.
- Oversee warehouse operations and controls, setting policies for inventory accuracy, storage utilization, loss prevention, and performance KPIs.
- Design and govern distribution network strategy to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery to agents, distributors, and end-users across regions.
- Drive demand planning and supply alignment with Distribution, Finance, Data, and Carbon teams; set inventory targets and monitor adherence to service-level objectives.
- Build and maintain strategic supplier, logistics, and manufacturing partnerships; set performance SLAs and manage escalations.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain to reduce cycle times, lower costs, and improve quality and responsiveness.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, safety, and environmental standards; prepare and present regular performance, risk, and cost reports to the Country Director.
- Manage, coach, and develop procurement and supply chain staff; establish clear accountability, performance metrics, and a culture of operational excellence.
Does This Sound Like You:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in supply chain, logistics, project management, operations, or relevant work experience
- Proven experience managing end-to-end supply chain operations, including procurement, warehousing, logistics, and distribution.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to use data to inform decisions.
- Solid understanding of inventory management systems, ERP tools, and supply chain software.
- Experience in vendor and contract management, including negotiations and performance monitoring.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and deliver under tight timelines.
- Sound understanding of local regulatory and import/export processes in Malawi.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous improvement.
Nice to have:
- A Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, or related field.
- Relevant professional certifications such as CIPS, are a plus.
