As a Process Safety Engineering Student, you will support risk management activities and see how process safety principles and practices are applied within Canada’s largest refinery. You will play a major role in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) where we assess risk in the operations of the refinery and offsite locations. You will prepare for and participate in the PHA sessions, work with the risk owners on managing recommendations and issue technical reports. The role is primarily office-based; however, you will develop an understanding of our refinery’s operations.
The Process Safety Engineering team consists of several junior and senior engineers. They are located at our Saint John refinery and form an integral part of our refinery Process Safety Management and Health, Safety and Environment teams.
Transportation onsite to the first gate at the refinery daily is the responsibility of the student.
Responsibilities:
Prepare for the PHA sessions by gathering required technical drawings and documents
Support the execution of the PHA sessions, as required
Prepare clear and structured technical PHA reports that will be reviewed by the engineers
Communicate outcomes, risks and recommendations to the risk owners and stakeholders
As required, work with the Process Safety Management team to support: facility siting; emergency preparedness; fire protection; over pressure protection; Safety Instrumented Systems; Safety Reviews; and Incident Investigations.
Gain exposure to regulatory frameworks and company safety standards

Ability to work within a team environment and meet deadlines
Safety conscious; follow procedures accurately
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Valid Canadian driver’s license, is an asset
Your Experience:
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary engineering program with a focus in Chemical or Process Engineering
Must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and be returning to school
