Process Safety Advisor

About this opportunity:

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Process Safety Advisor to join our team at the Toledo, Ohio refinery. This role supports our 24/7 operations team by leading a variety of process safety initiatives and programs with a focus on operating assets. The Process Safety Advisor plays a key role in managing risk across multiple process units and driving site-wide safety improvements. The position engages with all levels of the refinery, including the Senior Leadership Team and external Cenovus Subject Matter Experts outside the refinery.

What you’ll do:

• Lead compliance with OSHA PSM 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA RMP 40 CFR 68

• Supervise key Process Safety metrics and provide leadership and innovative ways to deliver on Process Safety performance using standard methodologies from other Cenovus facilities

• Participate and/or facilitate risk reviews including MOC, HAZOP, LOPA, PSSR, for plant changes, issues, and start-ups

• Lead process safety performance by interacting with directors, managers, supervisors, and represented crafts and operators, helping them to better understand the role they play in supporting process safety

• Educate site population on PSM requirements, good practices and new methods and hazard study outputs and assist site employees in understanding major accident hazards (MAH) and barriers related to the MAH

• Drive/own selected management system elements and gap closing activities from the Cenovus Operations Integrity Management System (COIMS)

• Support full implementation of elements through line of defense (LOD) auditing program execution

Who you are:

• Legally authorized to work in the US.

• High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

• 5 years work experience, preferably in process engineering, technical safety, operations, or process safety engineering in oil and gas or chemicals.

• Knowledge of US regulations specifically the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Process Safety Management Standard (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA RMP Rule

• Identifying safety hazards, assessing risks, and recommending mitigating long and short-term control actions to ensure the risk is handled to an adequate level

• Incident Investigation Training/Certified Leader
