From the edges of space to the bottoms of ocean, our materials are proven to perform -- and so is our team. We're hiring high performers as proven as our products. Join us.
We’re seeking a driven Engineer for a pivotal role within our technology department in Monroe, NC. This role will be responsible for optimizing Titanium melt technology and supporting processes to safely implement yield, cost and productivity improvements with new and existing assets.
ATI Specialty Materials | Bakers North Operations
ROLE PURPOSE Advance Process Engineering Excellence by partnering with Operations and the established technical organization to quantify process variation, strengthen process capability, deploy live digital SPC visibility, and accelerate sustainable manufacturing improvements. This role will focus on titanium melting operations, including PAM and VAR, with connectivity to downstream processes and manufacturing areas to validate improvements.
WHAT YOU WILL DELIVER
- Strengthen KCC and critical-variable definition. Partner with Operations, Quality and Technology teams to identify and statistically characterize the process variables and KCCs that most strongly influence stability, quality, yield, throughput, and equipment performance.
- Enable live digital SPC visibility. Develop process baselines, statistically valid limits, capability measures, visual dashboards, and escalation methods that make critical process performance visible and actionable in real time while supporting established technical and quality ownership.
- Lead focused process analysis. Analyze historical and real-time data for key data and critical parameters to distinguish normal variation from meaningful process shifts and identify improvement opportunities.
- Convert analysis into implemented improvement. Use statistical methods, structured problem solving, trials, and cross-functional execution to identify causes, develop recommendations, quantify business impact, support implementation, and verify that improvements are sustained with the responsible operating and technical teams.
- Build and teach repeatable Process Excellence methods. Develop common analytical tools and approaches for SPC, process capability, KCC evaluation, and data-driven process optimization; coach engineers and Operations teams in their effective use without replacing area or value-stream technical ownership.
- Operate as a cross-functional technical resource. Work alongside complimentary operations as appropriate. The role provides advanced statistical and process-improvement capability while existing functions retain their defined ownership for day-to-day area support, end-to-end product/process decisions, quality reporting, and specialized technical leadership.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree. Masters Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical, Chemical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline.
- Advanced statistical process capability. Experience using SPC, control charts, process capability, correlation/regression, designed trials, and structured root-cause methods to solve manufacturing problems.
- Manufacturing process engineering depth. Proven ability to analyze complex industrial processes, identify variables that drive performance, translate data into practical recommendations and control strategies, and implement improvements collaboratively with Operations and technical owners.
- Technical communication and influence. Ability to explain statistical and engineering findings clearly to shop-floor teams, engineers, quality personnel, and senior leaders and to drive action across organizational boundaries without relying on direct authority.
EXPERIENCE THAT STANDS OUT
- Aerospace or high-performance metals manufacturing. 7+ years of experience with titanium, nickel alloys, melting, forging, powder, castings, vacuum/thermal processing, or other tightly controlled manufacturing processes.
- Digital manufacturing data systems. Experience using plant historians, SCADA/MES data, dashboards, or similar tools to convert real-time manufacturing data into visual process-control information.
- Quality and qualification systems. AS9100, process qualification/requalification, deviation analysis, RCCA, customer technical interaction, or other experience in regulated manufacturing environments; able to contribute effectively while respecting established Quality and Value Stream ownership.
- Cross-functional technical leadership. Advanced engineering degree, formal statistical training, or demonstrated leadership of complex improvement programs involving Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, or Automation.
