ATI is seeking to hire a Process Engineer at our Hot Rolling Process Facility (HRPF) in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania (suburb of Pittsburgh).  


Our HRPF is a $1.2B state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that enables us to respond faster, develop new products to match our customers’ changing needs, and produce specialty, stainless and carbon products in unprecedented geometries.  The Process Engineer will report to the Manager, Process Engineering, and will have responsibility for an ATI product family as well as involvement with hot roll conversion processing and customers. 


Our HRPF’s unique power, size card and technology creates significant opportunities for our conversion customers. A successful Process Engineer effectively links the capabilities of our HRPF to the needs of our customers to drive a total lower cost and inventory outlay for our customers - this includes hot mill set up and data interpretation, specification review, minimization of SKU's, leaning chemistries while achieving higher mechanical properties and toughness levels, customer contact, knowledge and issue resolution, building customer requirements into ATI business and technical systems and developing an excellent knowledge of specialty, stainless and carbon product hot roll requirements and opportunities.


Essential Functions

  • Have accountability & ownership of assigned products from inquiry through shipment.
  • Be the expert in all facets of the hot rolling of the assigned products. This includes flow path, manufacturing set ups and controls, specifications, technical characteristics and customer requirements.
  • Develop, document and implement manufacturing, customer and product trials to continuously improve product attributes, tighten tolerances or reduce cost and flow time.
  • Interface with customer to improve product, resolve issues and grow our business.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for new grades/products or alterations of existing grades to meet new customer business specifications and opportunities.
  • Review customer inquiries to determine lowest total cost capabilities of assigned products to meet the requirements then design and implement a flow path to do this.
  • Partner with Marketing & Sales to evaluate new customer opportunities and then develop a cost competitive method to manufacture the material and win the business.
  • Limited Travel - approximately one day per month.
Preferred Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Materials, Chemical, Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years of process and product manufacturing experience
  • Experience with Specialty, Stainless or Carbon Steel manufacturing
    • Knowledge of how processing variables determine microstructure and mechanical properties
    • Knowledge of the root causes of melting, casting and/or hot rolling related surface quality issues and associated corrective actions
  • Experience with carbon API grades and/or Nickel alloy hot roll products (including specs, applications and customers)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and across all levels of the organization
  • Strong ability to effectively interact with our customers
  • Ability and knowledge to utilize the HRPF's unique capability to target markets, end users and customers is highly desired
  • Proficient computer background with the Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel and Power Point) and ability to adapt to company and job-related systems
