Process Engineer

Shift: Typically Monday through Friday, with very infrequent after-hours call-in
Position Overview
The Process Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and plays a key role in supporting daily plant operations, process improvements, and capital project work. This position involves analyzing and designing processes for emulsion polymerization, adhesives, and coatings while collaborating across departments such as Quality, R&D, and Maintenance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support daily plant operations, working with operators and maintenance to troubleshoot process and equipment issues. Identify opportunities for process and material handling improvements.
- Support capital projects through initial scoping and design. Provide expertise and analysis for the design of pumps, piping, heat exchangers, reactors and mixing vessels, filtration equipment, and pressure safety devices.
- Work closely with on-site R&D to provide process scale-up support for new product introduction, process modification, and new process development.
- Investigate quality and process safety incidents, leading 5-why / Cause Mapping reviews for analysis and solution recommendations. Where solutions are technical in nature, design and implement these solutions.
- Evaluate and support site PSM objectives, providing technical support for Process Hazard Analysis. Lead Management of Change, updating P&IDs, safe operating limits, updating or creating new Standard Operating Procedures, hazard analysis screening, training operators or maintenance, and providing support for pre-startup safety review.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- Demonstrated technical capability for computational and data analysis
- Comfortable working across multiple functional groups – operations, technical, maintenance, providing communication and coordination necessary to implement solutions quickly and safely.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
- Dedication to spending time in the process to understand plant issues, to monitor and ensure success of implemented solutions, and to build working relationships with plant personnel.
Preferred Requirements
- 2-5 years engineering experience in a chemical manufacturing setting (includes co-op/internship experience)
- Experience in reactive batch production of polymers
- Experience in compounding and mixing of polymers and additives into saleable products.
- Working knowledge of any of the following: data analytics and statistics using tools like 6-Sigma, Design of Experiments, Minitab, SAP, Power BI, MS Excel; statistical process control for quality management; Root Cause Analysis; process engineering modeling tools (Aspen, Fathom, etc.)
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.
The salary for this role is $90,000 - $100,000.
