Job Summary:

 

The Process Engineering Technician plays a vital role in supporting operations through meticulous documentation, comprehensive training, and direct floor assistance. Acting as a bridge between production, engineering (including manufacturing, process, custom, design, and product), and procurement teams, this role is essential for the seamless integration of new products, prototypes, and complex builds. The technician collaborates closely with various teams to resolve discrepancies and enhance documentation processes.  This role is a part of our Process Engineering team and will report directly to the Manufacturing Process Analyst onsite.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1) Operations Production Support:

  • Assist Production: Address questions and resolve issues related to documentation, including orders, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Onsite Support: Provide direct assistance on the production floor, documenting issues through photos, marked-up drawings, etc.
  • Utilize Tools: Use AS400, SAP, and other tools to support production needs.
  • Complex Builds: Aid in the assembly of complicated builds, prototypes, and pilot projects.
  • Review and Feedback: Examine new drawings, products, and builds with production and engineering teams, offering guidance to production and feedback to engineering.

 

2) Collaboration and Communication:

  • Liaison Role: Act as a mediator between engineering, procurement, and production teams to clarify ambiguities or discrepancies in documentation.
  • Documentation Submission: Submit necessary documentation such as ESRs and MSRs.
  • Issue Communication: Relay identified issues to relevant departments and track their resolution.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with process and manufacturing engineering teams across truck body locations.

 

3) Process Improvement:

  • Pilot Process Participation: Engage in the pilot process by reviewing documentation and physical builds, and communicating feedback between engineering and production teams.
  • Documentation Cross-Check: Ensure that documentation aligns with product specifications and engineering standards.
  • Best Practices: Develop and implement best practices across the Value Stream for consistent application.
  • SOP Development: Assist in creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to documentation.

 

4) Training and Support:

  • Team Training: Provide training and guidance to the operations team on interpreting and using manufacturing documents.
  • Training Materials: Develop training materials and documentation guidelines for internal use.
  • Resource Role: Serve as a resource for the operations team to answer questions related to manufacturing documentation.

Requirements:

 

Technical Skills:

  • Engineering Drawings: Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • BOM & ERP Systems: Familiar with Bill of Materials (BOM) management and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Software Proficiency: Experienced in using the Microsoft Office suite.
  • CAD Software: Proficient in SolidWorks.
  • Lean Methodology: Experience with Lean methodology is preferred.

Physical Demands:

 

  • Requires, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, with a full range of body mechanics/movements.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in an environment requiring use of stairs and climbing in and out of trucks or working in tight spaces.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE)

 

 

Working Conditions and Environment:

 

The work environment includes exposure to high decibels of noise, temperature, weather variations, metal welding processes and chemicals, which may include solvents, undercoating, paint, and caulking.
