MAIN FUNCTIONS
Lead a design team in the development of basic process design specifications or provide oversight of an engineering contractor’s technical deliverables during the front end design / detailed engineering phases of projects.
This position will support facilities engineering for projects in the Bakken and Midland basins. Responsibilities include engineering contractor oversight, procurement support, and maintenance of standard designs. The role will primarily oversee detailed engineering contractors and support projects from process design through detailed engineering and procurement.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor and lead junior engineers in the development of process design specifications, including the development of heat & material balances, design flow plans, process equipment design, preliminary hydraulic balances, utility balances, basic process control & instrumentation, materials selection, safety facilities.
• Lead and/or perform process optimization studies to identify / evaluate capital / operating cost savings, process configuration alternatives, safety facilities requirements, etc.
• Provide technical oversight for engineering contractor’s work during front end engineering & design / detailed engineering to ensure consistency with Company methods & guidelines, project specifications & owner’s requirements.
• Participate in Hazard & Operability Reviews for new / modified facilities / in support of existing plant facilities.
• Provide commissioning & start-up assistance for new / modified facilities, as required.
• Establish organization and staffing process.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• BS degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent, required per the base job description. Supplier guidance indicates a Mechanical or Chemical Engineering background is preferred; candidates without a degree may be considered only with substantial experience that closely matches the role.
• Experience in petroleum refining / chemical process industry / with an engineering contractor serving these industries.
• Capital project development experience.
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs.
• Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as it applies to technical and business communications.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE / ROLE REQUIREMENTS
• Targeting 10–15 years of experience, with flexibility for candidates with strong, directly relevant experience.
• Strong Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering background with both design and operations experience, preferably from an owner/operator environment.
• Experience with process and mechanical equipment, process design through detailed design, and procurement support.
• Experience responding to RFIs and technical queries, working with consultants / engineering contractors, and applying owner/operator design standards.
• Understanding of process flow diagrams, piping requirements / thickness, equipment specifications, and related process / mechanical design considerations.
• Experience in upstream and tight oil developments is preferred. Operations support experience is also preferred.
