LSB is seeking a Process Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive safe, compliant, and optimized operations. This role partners closely with operations and maintenance to improve process stability, increase asset utilization, and strengthen operating discipline.

The Process Engineer serves as the unit technical authority, focusing on process performance, risk reduction, and long-term reliability improvement while maintaining strong field engagement with supervisors and operators.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintains visible field presence to reinforce safe work practices and process discipline.
  • Leads and supports MOC reviews, PHAs, and risk assessments.
  • Serves as technical lead during incident investigations and ensure sustainable corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensures process safety documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, relief systems data, mass & energy balances) remains current and accurate.
  • Identifies and mitigates process safety vulnerabilities within assigned units.

Operations Support & Leadership

  • Maintains consistent field presence to support operators and build trust with frontline personnel.
  • Translates complex engineering concepts into practical guidance for operators and shift supervisors.
  • Fosters open communication, encourages operator feedback, and promotes team-based problem solving.
  • Reviews daily logbooks, alarm histories, and trends to stay engaged with operations and identify performance gaps.
  • Acts as technical expert during unplanned events, providing urgent response and leadership for troubleshooting and recovery.

Process Optimization & Performance

  • Monitors, analyzes, and owns Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as yield, energy consumption, raw material efficiency, and asset utilization.
  • Partners with subject matter experts to diagnose chronic issues, document operating discipline, and improve standard practices.
  • Ensures effective use of process automation, control systems, and technology to optimize performance.
  • Drives continuous improvement in raw material efficiency, throughput, and workflow across the production environment.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and reliability teams to resolve issues, align priorities, and ensure reliable operations.
  • Participates in cross-functional projects and provides technical leadership for improvements to process control, asset reliability, and production practices.
  • Recognizes and celebrates contributions from operations staff to strengthen engagement and accountability.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in chemical, petrochemical, or heavy manufacturing industries preferred  
  • Strong understanding of process safety, environmental regulations, and quality systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead improvements and collaborate across operations, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
  • Willingness to work in a 24/7 continuous chemical processing facility around dust, chemicals, high temperature, loud noises, and running equipment.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (FRC, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection) in addition to full face respirator as necessary in emergencies.
  • Must be able to lift as much as 25 lbs.

Special Attention: This position is safety and security sensitive in nature. 

This position deals with hazardous materials and/or industrial processes that can pose a risk to employees and the general public.  This facility is required to comply with security standards under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) CFATS regulation 6 CFR Part 27.
