Position Summary:

The Process Design & Improvement ICM is a dynamic and results-oriented individual who will lead and manage various projects within our organization. The ideal candidate will excel in project and stakeholder management, leveraging data analysis to drive process improvements. This position requires a strategic thinker with the ability to lead, influence, and inspire others to achieve desired results.

The ICM thinks strategically and globally when addressing operational business problems, involving leadership and associated stakeholders where needed. They possess substantial knowledge about the Configuration & Enrollment Services space and how those functions interact with our partner teams. This manager will guide and inspire cross-functional project teams to action. They have a demonstrated ability to assume sole and independent responsibility for various conflicting and high-priority assignments, which they can effectively prioritize based on impact to athena and value for our customers.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

Process Improvement and Business Analysis (60%)

  • Conduct thorough analyses of existing business processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for enhancement.

  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives that drive operational excellence.

  • Utilize data-driven insights to inform strategic decision-making and optimize business performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Project & Stakeholder Management (30%)

  • Conduct thorough analyses of existing business processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for enhancement.

  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives that drive operational excellence.

  • Utilize data-driven insights to inform strategic decision-making and optimize business performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Mentorship/Coaching & Continuous Education (10%)

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to junior team members, promoting their professional growth and development.

  • Share knowledge and best practices to enhance team capabilities and performance.

  • Encourage a culture of continuous learning by identifying training opportunities and resources for team members.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 1-3 years of experience in business analysis, project management, or a related role.

  • 0-2 years of experience in healthcare operations, payer enrollment, claims processing, or related field.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proven experience in project management, with a strong track record of successful project delivery.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • Experience translating business requirements into solutions, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all cohort levels and across business lines.

  • Strong analytical skills with emphasis on reporting and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Visio, Sigma, Tableau) to spot patterns and transform raw data into actionable insights.

  • Familiarity with payer systems and enrollment processes is a plus.

  • Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma is a plus.

  • Proven experience in mentoring or coaching is preferred.

  • A commitment to continuous education and professional development.


Expected Compensation

$100,000 - $170,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
