POSITION SUMMARY
The CT Technologist is responsible for radiological patient care from neonatal to geriatric ages. This position is responsible for related duties to provide quality care dictated by departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: Graduate of an Accredited Program. Must have and keep continuing education credits up-to-date as required by ARRT and the State of Texas for registry and licensure.
Minimum Work Experience: Radiologic technology experience necessary.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Registered by the ARRT to produce ionizing radiation. Advance registry in CT. If individual hasn't obtained advanced registry in CT, the individual must complete this registration within one year of hire date. Must possess Texas State Licensure and meet all FDA and State of Texas requirements. Must have current basic CPR certification.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Must have good working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and understand the principles of physics. Must possess the knowledge to obtain diagnostic quality images and setup and operate equipment safely.
Preferred Qualification
CT experience is preferred, but not required.JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.
2. Conduct reflects HMHD's values and a commitment to HMHD's Code of Conduct.
3. Attends the required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
4. Demonstrates proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program.
5. Complies with all HIPAA standards.
6. Consistently obtains diagnostic quality Rad/CT scans and radiographic images as ordered by a member of the medical staff.
7. Accurately determines the quality of the images.
8. Consistently uses proper warm-up procedures and QA functions on all equipment utilized.
9. Correctly evaluates patient for oral and IV contrast media.
10. Correctly operates all exposure, processing, Meditech, patient support, Radiology and Computed Radiography equipment.
11. Knows and applies radiation and ALARA safety precautions.
12. Helps transport patients to and from the department when needed.
13. Assists Radiologist during designated procedures.
14. Prepares patient history sheet specific to ordered examinations.
15. All other duties as assigned by supervisors and administrators.
16. Follows and improves, as necessary, all policies and procedures approved by HMHD and those specific for the RAD/CT department at each facility within the Hospital District.
17. Completes competencies and annual training as required and assigned.
18. Know and applies all radiation safety precautions. Maintains ALARA principles when exposing patients to ionizing radiation in accordance to the Dose Management Policy. Completes competencies and annual training as required and assigned.
19. Performs other tasks and assists in other areas as assigned and needed by the Supervisor, Coordinator, Director and Assistant Director of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiologist or Administrator within our Hospital District. Performs
any other tasks to fill the need of the department, hospital and its patients.
20. Correctly and consistently adheres to the DI department's contrast policy with all patients. Correctly prepares oral and IV contrast media.
21. Consistently transports patients to and from the department when needed. Assists in any area of the DI department according to the absences of co-workers, extra workloads and emergency need of others.
22. Uses proper lifting techniques and practices safety to ensure the protection of the patient, self, co-workers, hospital property and equipment at all times.
23. Consistently checks order requisition for completeness of information regarding the patient and the exam ordered. Verifies, edits and follow change-order process appropriately with any discrepancies associated with the ordered
exam. Performs Meditech and PACS functions to complete all tasks.
24. Maintains work area so that it is orderly, clean and stocked with the appropriate supplies and items needed to prepare the patient and room specific to imaging procedures performed.
25. Follows and improves, as necessary, all policies and procedures approved by HMHD and those specific for the Rad/CT department at each facility within the Hospital District.

Skills Required

  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
  • Current ARRT registration to produce ionizing radiation
  • Advanced registry in CT (or obtain within one year of hire)
  • Texas State Licensure and compliance with FDA and Texas requirements
  • Current basic CPR certification
  • Radiologic technology experience
  • Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and physics principles
  • Ability to obtain diagnostic quality images and safely operate imaging equipment
  • Proficiency with Meditech and PACS functions
  • Knowledge and application of radiation safety and ALARA principles
  • Ability to evaluate and prepare patients for oral and IV contrast media
  • CT experience
