PRN PICC NURSE

The position will provide vascular access care for patients as assigned for the adult and pediatric population. The PICC nurse is a vascular access expert and assists the care team in determining the most optimal vascular access line to meet the patient’s needs, as well as assist with vascular access education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

2. Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) through the Vascular Access Certification Corporation within two (2) years of hire.

3. ACLS within 90 days of hire

4. BLS within 30 days of hire

EXPERIENCE:

1. One (1) year clinical nursing experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:\

1. Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) through the Vascular Access Certification Corporation

EXPERIENCE:

1. Three (3) Years RN Experience

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Inserts PICC, Midlines, Access and tunneled Ports and PIV via ultrasound guidance and determines placement via ECG or x-ray follow-up with the radiologist and documents the procedure.

2. Assist staff by monitoring PICC lines, declotting, and discontinuing catheters with or without blood cultures. Perform weekly dressing changes and may assist staff with performing dressing changes.

3. Insert peripheral IV throughout the hospital.
4. Plans, evaluates and implements interventions for solving IV related patient care problems.

5. Provide IV therapy and PICC instruction/ education to staff, patients, families, students and physicians.

6. Participates in quality monitoring related to PICC lines insertions and ultrasound guided IV.

7. Performs other nursing duties including but not limited to assessment, sedation, IR procedures, recovery, patient education, patient follow up and other duties as necessary.
8. May provide staff education to include departmental education activities related to PICC and Midlines.

9. Maintains current knowledge of core measures and assist in performing chart audits, monitoring and follow-up with staff to ensure compliance when not performing IV therapy.

10. Keeps current on new advances in IV therapy. May assist with new product evaluation.
11. Demonstrates Customer Service standards (smiles and makes eye contact; greets each patient and visitor; seeks out patient and visitor contact; displays appropriate body language at all times; takes 5 minutes each day to go above and beyond for one patient or visitor; honors diversity
12. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient’s profile and appropriate algorithms.

2. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 35+lbs
