Required: Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) from the Health Care Compliance Association or commitment to obtain certification within eighteen months.
Education
Required: Associate degree with an emphasis in healthcare, accounting, or business or in a closely related field.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in healthcare, accounting, business or in a closely related field or equivalent experience
Experience
Required: At least five years hospital privacy, auditing, or compliance experience.
Preferred: Two years in health care leadership
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Independently performs internal privacy investigations and audits throughout Kaweah Health, including compiling detailed reports with recommendations for submission to relevant Kaweah Health committees and the Board of Directors.
Assists with the development of Management’s Action Plans related to identified privacy issues, monitors corrective actions, and completes appropriate follow-up work to ensure Management's Action Plans are completed within the established time frames and accomplish the identified goals related to achieving compliance with privacy laws and regulations.
Manages Kaweah Health’s Privacy Monitoring tool, optimizes efficiencies, and tracks capabilities, as necessary.
Works with department managers and Human Resources to investigate potential breaches, conduct discovery meetings, and reach resolution on privacy issues.
Maintains the Compliance Department’s Privacy Statement of Concern Log and documents issues, findings and corrective actions taken towards issue resolution.
Prepares and submits breach reports to federal and state agencies and notifies affected patients, when required.
Provides support to other departments as it relates to development of monitoring tools and protocols for privacy-related functions.
Assists the in oversight of HIPAA Privacy Rule and California State privacy law compliance.
Independently performs and prepares written reports on privacy and regulatory audits and presents reports to leaders in the involved areas and relevant Kaweah Health committees.
Prepares and presents training materials and education on privacy and regulatory topics.
Assists in the review, oversight, and education of non-employees’ accessing the Kaweah Health medical record system.
Researches regulations, monitors new laws, keeps fully abreast and informed of compliance, privacy, and HIPAA related topics and assists with evaluation of potential risk areas and issues.
Demonstrates ability to independently manage privacy related projects from initiation through completion to help ensure Kaweah Health maintains privacy compliance.
