Job DescriptionDo you love taking on big challenges in a fast paced regulated environment? Do you have deep, detailed knowledge of privacy law and a passion for innovation?
Our Global Privacy team is part of the legal tribe and operates at the heart of a global publicly listed company, supporting teams throughout Wise in protecting the privacy and security of our customers. We are looking for an exceptional privacy leader to strategically partner with and support our high growth NorthAm and LATAM businesses.
You will work directly with business and engineering teams to design innovative privacy solutions for products, as well as with legal, compliance and risk teams to to embed privacy compliance for the region.
This role will be in Austin to provide local time-zone support and to co-locate with other members of the Wise Legal team.
What You’ll Work On
Lead all privacy implementation and reg change programmes for NorthAm and LATAM regions
Partner with business and engineering teams on the design and launch of innovative products for the NorthAm and LATAM markets
Advise on the privacy aspects of Wise platform partnerships and arrangements with partner banks and financial institutions, including contractual arrangements
Provide strategic privacy guidance and support for Wise’s OCC license application and associated regulatory approvals
Support expansion activities for launching Wise products and services in new jurisdictions
Oversee privacy compliance for NorthAm and LATAM entities and report to oversight committees and entity boards in the regions
Support periodic global and regional audits of privacy compliance within Wise.
Keep up with evolving regulatory requirements in the region and translate them into actionable business requirements
Support implementation of the Wise AI Governance framework, monitor emerging AI regulations and guidelines in the NorthAm and LATAM regions and support associated regulatory change initiatives
Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you will be a self-starter, a great influencer and communicator. You will be comfortable working in grey areas and making judgement calls at speed. You will be obsessed with detail and happy handling competing priorities and differences of opinion. You will have strong project management skills and be able to break through walls to get things done, collaborating with cross-functional teams to find practical solutions. You will have:
Excellent academic credentials. Minimum of 8 years privacy experience at a top-tier law firm or in-house
Strong in-depth understanding of existing and developing privacy, AI and data security laws in the NorthAm region and working knowledge of those laws in the LATAM region.
Hands-on experience of GLBA, FCRA etc.
Experienced in handling privacy inquiries, complaints and incidents.
Experience in privacy by design and data protection impact assessments
Experience in dealing with regulators on privacy matters.
Experience in drafting and negotiating privacy related contracts and developing compliance and auditing frameworks
Comfortable taking the initiative and working across multiple business lines and jurisdictions
Excellent written and verbal skills in English
Admitted to practice law in at least one NorthAm state.
A problem solving attitude, with the ability to use regulation together with data to drive business decisions
Ability to drive and deliver projects from inception to completion, timely and with attention to detail
Experience (or interest) in working in a fast-growing environment.
Desirable
Relevant privacy qualification, such as CIPM, CIPP or equivalent.
Knowledge of new and developing state laws relating to privacy, security and use of AI
Hands on experience of AI Governance
Direct Marketing and Ad Tech experience
Experience of relevant technologies including data anonymisation, PETS, artificial intelligence and familiarity with ethical frameworks, data governance and accountability
