THE ROLE 

Zeta Global is seeking a Privacy and Compliance Counsel to join our legal team.  This role will report to the Chief Privacy Officer and will focus primarily on privacy counseling and compliance, but will include other compliance work or support for commercial transactions as needed.  Preference for the role to be based in Zeta’s New York City office. 

Job Duties:

  • Support the compliance priorities and advance the strategic goals established by the CPO.
  • Provide legal counsel to Zeta Global and its subsidiary businesses on privacy and data protection and related areas;
  • Track legal developments in the area of privacy and data protection and assist in determining applicability to Zeta’s business;
  • Support commercial contracting with data partners, vendors, and clients;
  • Support the ongoing development and rollout of Zeta’s privacy compliance program;
  • Participate in “Privacy by Design” discussions during development of products and services;
  • Process and track subpoenas and other legal requests for data; and
  • Otherwise support the Zeta legal team as needed.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Admitted to the bar with 1-3 years of experience as an attorney;
  • CIPP certification;
  • Familiar with “ad tech” technology and the mechanics of programmatic advertising;
  • Deep working knowledge of CCPA, the GDPR, and FTC enforcement actions;
  • Familiar with CAN SPAM and/or CASL, COPPA, and security breach notification laws;
  • Excellent communication skills – able to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and via Powerpoint with legal, technical, and business audiences;
  • Organized and drives projects to completion with minimal supervision;
  • Can synthesize vague or poorly defined legal rules into coherent legal positions and give practical, implementable advice;
  • Able to engage confidently with business executives, clients, law enforcement, and opposing counsel;
  • Self-directed, but collaborative, team-focused attitude, with a sense of humor.

Bonus points:

  • Deep knowledge of US financial services privacy rules—GLBA, FCRA, CFPB, etc.;
  • Previous experience working as in-house counsel, particularly at a tech startup;
  • Understands the EU legal system, GDPR and the e-Privacy Directive;
  • Work history or internship with privacy groups like FPF, CDT, EFF, NAI, DAA, etc.;
  • Multi-lingual;
  • Teaching or performance experience

COMPENSATION RANGE

The compensation range for this role is $130,000.00 - $160,000.00, depending on location and experience.
