The Label Printer and Sorting Tech (LPS) must have knowledge of computers, printers, and email, and will use a computer to send and release print jobs and shipping reports. Must be able to learn, operate, and maintain shipping printers and their supplies and perform routine upkeep (such as replacing toner cartridges. This position will perform label printing, sorting processes, and distribution of shipping labels. This position will help training seasonal sorting technicians and see that all labels are sorted in a timely and accurate fashion. The LPS Tech works under the supervision of the Label Print Coordinator. Good communication skills and team perform skills are required. During non-peak season the employee may be required to report to another supervisor in another department and must be able to work in other departments as the production schedule requires.  The LPS Tech must pay close attention to the details on the shipping label, matching the number of labels printed to the “daily pack slip printed” report.  This position accounts for all sequences within the label print, verifying all shipments have printed on all shipping and personalizing printers. The tech sorts labels according to various criteria, and in some cases, matches them with corresponding personalization. The LPS Tech prioritizes labels for processing, keeping track of all batch prints in the order of which they print. This employee may be scheduled to work in other departments or other areas in shipping, and may be required to report to other supervisors in other department when shipping work volume is low. Evening and weekend hours are required during the peak holiday shipping period (December).    


 

SCHEDULING REQUIRMENTS: 1st Shift 6:00am—2:00pm (hours vary with season)

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Label sorting and distribution of labels.
  • Training of others during the peak holiday season.
  • Operating a laser printer.
  • Maintaining the printer for normal operations.
  • Daily tracking of batch labels printed.
  • Processing of all shipping labels. This requires employee must be precise with this work.
  • Fill all shipping functions as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

Equipment Used: utility knife, scissors, hand jack, computer, printer, tape, tape gun, vacuum, pen, pencil, copying machine, calculator.

A Label Print and Sorting Tech must be able to work in a team environment as well as work independently, and must be able to follow instructions given by the department Manager.

  • Knowledge of MicroPlex HD Label printer helpful.
  • Have legible handwriting.
  • Pass the numbers perception test with a score of 100 or better.

 

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; Experience in a shipping department a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Past employment experience with shipping, label processing and print experience a plus. Good organizational skills. Working on a picking/shipping line, to perform these jobs is not required but is helpful.

 

Label Print and Sorting Tech must be able to pay attention to detail on the shipping label for various shipping information needed. While working in other departments, employee must be able to prepare a finished gift product, count correct number of items included in product and have manual dexterity in keeping up with assembly/production line pace. 

 

Special vision required is close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and color vision (ability to identify and distinguish numbers and colors).

 

Supervision Exercised: The employee in this position does not carry out any supervisory responsibilities.

 

Supervision Received: The employee in this position receives direction from the Manager/ Label print Coordinator and Senior Shipping Line Coordinator for each task he/she undertakes and works under direct supervision.

 

Decision Making: The Label Print and Sorting Tech may give ideas or suggestions as to a better or quicker way to improve label processing.

 

Communications: Communicates internally with co-workers, line leads, and different supervisors in operations.

Must have strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a warehouse/ assembly/production atmosphere near moving mechanical parts.  While working on a machine may work near fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level environment is moderate noise with the sound of forklifts driving around.

The temperature in shipping may be cooler than in other departments due to having doors open for trailer trucks, and while in a shipping office Print room environment the temperature is colder due to the label printer needs.

 

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will stand part of the time, may walk up to 1/4 of the time, will use hands to finger and reach with hands and arms, and sit more than 3/4’s of the time.

 

A Label Print and Sorting Tech may lift up to 10-50 pounds 2/3’s of the time.

 

Safety/Hazards:

 

Measure of Effectiveness: Effectiveness in shipping is measured by being able to print, process and sort accurately the correct label(s) accordingly to meet expected standards within shipping, and with daily print needs.  Effectiveness is also measured by being able to work within a fast paced area, in various surroundings and in different shipping functions to meet the expected quantity and quality standards.

QA Requirements:

  • Follow appropriate SOPP’s, SSOP’s, GMP’s, and equipment specific procedures
  • Follow established sanitary production guidelines
  • CCP (Critical Control Point), QCP (Critical Quality Point), and scale checks as needed.
  • Follow FIFO procedures for raw materials and bulk product
  • Follow allergen guidelines and policies
  • Record product traceability data where appropriate
  • Communicate all food safety and quality issues to QA personnel

The expected salary range for this position is $18/hour. The actual compensation will be determined by experience and other factors permitted by the law.
