Principle, R&D Standards and Regulations Lead

In the role of Principal Standards & Regulations Lead in the Research & Innovation function, you will contribute to our purpose of Bringing People Closer. Reporting to the VP, Research & Innovation, you will build a forward-looking standards and regulations capability that helps GN identify emerging developments early, make informed strategic choices and engage credibly in the forums shaping future requirements.

The Team you will be part of:
Research & Innovation helps shape GN’s technology direction and supports the development of intelligent audio, video and gaming solutions. The function connects technology insight, product ambitions and external developments to help GN prepare for what is next.

You will work closely with colleagues across R&D, Product, Legal, regional teams and other subject-matter experts. Together, we aspire to create clarity from complexity, enable early action and ensure standards and regulations support product innovation and market access.

Your contribution is appreciated, and you will:

• Develop and maintain a multi-year landscape of relevant standards, legislation and regulatory developments across GN’s key markets.
• Prioritize topics requiring proactive engagement, executive attention or specialist involvement, including AI, cybersecurity, batteries, EMC, digitalization and market-specific requirements.
• Translate complex technical and regulatory developments into clear business implications, options and recommendations for leadership and product teams.
• Establish governance, decision-making processes, risk assessments and an operating model that connects external developments with internal expertise.
• Build GN’s presence and participation in relevant standards organizations, industry associations, committees and regulatory-facing networks.
• Mobilize internal subject-matter experts across functions and geographies to provide timely input and support GN’s external engagement.
• Help leadership assess trade-offs relating to compliance, speed, business impact, timing and mitigation, supporting GN’s freedom to operate and reducing late-stage surprises.

To perform well in the role, we imagine that you:

• Bring experience within standards, regulation, compliance or technology governance in a product-driven organization.
• Apply sound judgement to distinguish important signals from broader developments and form pragmatic recommendations amid uncertainty.
• Communicate complex technical and regulatory topics clearly in writing, presentations and discussions with specialists and executives.
• Work well with others across functions and seniority levels, building trusted relationships with internal experts and external peers.
• May have experience with industry bodies, associations, committees or regulatory-facing networks; experience from regulated hardware or software categories, EU, U.S. or China regulatory landscapes is beneficial.
