Chemours is seeking a Manufacturing Technology (MT) Automation & Process Control Engineer to join our Nafion™ exchange materials team. This position is located at the Fayetteville Works site in Fayetteville, NC and will report directly to the Manufacturing Technology Manager.
This position provides technical expertise in automation, process controls, instrumentation, and electrical systems supporting manufacturing operations. The engineer will develop and implement process-control strategies that improve process safety, product quality, yield, plant capacity, reliability, and uptime.
The role combines hands-on plant troubleshooting with automation improvements and capital-project support and requires close partnership with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, and capital-project teams.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide automation, electrical, instrumentation, and process-control support to manufacturing operations.
Develop and implement automation and control-system modifications ranging from small plant improvements to major capital projects.
Configure, modify, and troubleshoot DCS and PLC systems supporting existing and new manufacturing processes.
Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, automation, and control-system issues affecting plant operations.
Serve as an alarm and interlock system guardian for the assigned manufacturing area.
Implement corporate automation and process-control standards and directives.
Support and lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) activities involving electrical, instrumentation, and control-system equipment.
Provide technical support to electrical-safety initiatives and related plant programs.
Support capital projects through technical development, equipment specification, installation, commissioning, and startup activities.
Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and training to plant personnel as needed.
The following is required for this role:
BS degree in Engineering and significant relevant automation/process-control experience, including at least 5 years of process automation and control engineering experience. Electrical or Chemical Engineering backgrounds are preferred; other engineering disciplines may be considered when supported by strong relevant controls experience.
Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including sufficient programming knowledge to diagnose problems and make basic modifications.
Working knowledge of electrical and motor-control systems, including motors, motor starters, soft starters, variable-frequency/variable-speed drives, and low-voltage controls.
Working knowledge of industrial instrumentation, including flow, pressure, temperature, level, pH, and conductivity transmitters and sensing elements.
Demonstrated ability to support both plant troubleshooting/operational needs and automation or capital-project work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
The following is preferred for this role:
Experience with ABB Distributed Control Systems and/or Rockwell Automation PLC systems.
Experience with Safety Interlock Systems or Safety Instrumented Systems, including operation, testing, and troubleshooting.
Experience with Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD) concepts.
Experience in chemical manufacturing, oil and gas, power generation, aerospace, or another complex industrial/process manufacturing environment.
Root Cause Failure Analysis, continuous-improvement, or Six Sigma Green Belt experience.
