The Automotive Electrification and Sustainable Energy BU's purpose is to engineer a decarbonized, cleaner, and a more sustainable electrified future. With the accelerated on-boarding of renewable power generation sources over the next 20 years, there is a simultaneous requirement to stabilize the energy grid with the rapid addition of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). In recognition of this fast-accelerating opportunity, the Sustainable Energy BU has created a new group focused specifically on delivering products and solutions to the BESS market.

To build out the new BESS team, the Sustainable Energy BU is looking to fill several important positions with people who will be key to the success of this new group.

The Role

The Sustainable Energy BU has identified the need for a highly motivated and experienced Systems Engineer/Architect to define and shape state-of-the-art products and solutions for the energy storage systems of the future. This is an exciting role with high visibility where the Systems Engineer/Architect is responsible for the architectural design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge products and system solutions comprising of multiple hardware components and software layers. Battery management will be a core system competency.

  • Assume system responsibility for BESS solutions from concept, through architecture and design to production.
  • Identify and derive requirements from customer needs through to system requirements.
  • Develop the architecture based on requirements (appropriate systems modelling and capturing into a requirements management tool) and coordinate it with the customer and internal stakeholders including software, hardware, security, and functional safety.
  • Plan and conduct architecture design reviews with the project team.
  • Work with the wider team on product strategy planning and customer engagement.
  • Provide guidance to executive leadership team on critical technology decisions.

Requirements

Strong candidates will have the following attributes, experience, and qualifications:

  • Minimum BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering; MSEE or MSCE and 10+ years of experience preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have worked as a design or systems engineer in a company building BESS or as a systems engineer in a semiconductor company with experience of BESS. Other equivalent experience will be considered.
  • The candidate is expected to employ systems thinking and have demonstrated excellence in systems design in high voltage battery management within the last 5-10 years.
  • Experience with high voltage Lithium-ion Battery management systems covering cell and pack measurement, communications and processing, control, and battery state algorithms.
  • Experience in one or more of wireless, security, software, IC design and functional safety is highly desired.
  • Proven experience as a system architect with good knowledge of systems modelling and requirements capture, especially in the context of safety-relevant systems.
  • Experience with articulating and presenting concepts to customers and uncovering their needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to understand and clearly articulate technical issues.
  • Demonstrated team player, excellent communication, and leadership skills.
  • Enjoys working in a dynamic environment in fast-growing markets, and openly embraces working with others, including across groups, and actively seeks to do so.
  • Ability to travel for customer and partner meetings as required.
  • Familiarity with tools like JAMA, and Cameo/Enterprise Architecture.
  • Experience managing others is a plus.
