The Allegro team is united by a clear purpose—advancing technologies that make the world safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor innovation, we bring that purpose to life across every part of the business—from breakthrough product development and customer success to how we show up for each other and the communities we serve.

The Opportunity

Allegro MicroSystems is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the definition of our next generation of Motor Control and Brushless Motor Driver ICs. You will sit at the critical intersection of Marketing, Systems, and IC Design. Your mission is to understand the future needs of the automotive and industrial markets—such as e-mobility, robotics, and automation—and define the "winning" product architectures that will keep Allegro at the forefront of the industry.

What You Will Do

  • Product Architecture Definition: Translate high-level customer requirements and market trends into detailed technical specifications (Target Specs) for new Integrated Circuits (ICs).

  • System Modeling & Simulation: Use tools like MATLAB, Simulink, or PSpice to model system-level behavior and verify that the proposed IC definition meets the application’s performance and safety needs.

  • Customer Engagement: Act as the technical expert in deep-dive meetings with "Tier 1" automotive and industrial customers to understand their system-level challenges and influence their future architectures.

  • Competitive Analysis: Perform detailed technical benchmarking against competitor solutions to ensure Allegro products offer superior value, efficiency, and integration.

  • Roadmap Support: Partner with Product Marketing to define the long-term technology roadmap, identifying the key IP and process technologies (e.g., SG8, TMR) needed for future success.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead the technical feasibility studies and "Design-In" reviews, ensuring a smooth hand-off from the definition phase to the IC Design and Verification teams.

What You Will Need

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Ph.D. preferred). Candidates should be honors graduates with significant knowledge and experience in electrical engineering.

  • 10+ years in the semiconductor industry, with a focus on systems engineering, applications engineering, or analog/mixed-signal design.

  • A good grounding in and deep understanding of fundamental power electronics experience.

  • Motor Control Algorithms:

    • Deep knowledge of Field Oriented Control (FOC).

    • Knowledge of PI Control loop design and tuning.

    • Knowledge of sensorless control techniques for brushless motors.

  • Strong understanding of automotive safety standards (ISO 26262 / ASIL).

  • Exceptional ability to simplify complex technical concepts for customers while maintaining the rigor required for design engineers.

Desirable :

  • Direct experience in motor control semiconductor product definition.

  • Real-time Embedded coding for motor control using C/C++ on Microcontrollers (MCUs).

  • Advanced MATLAB/Simulink skills for motor control simulation and algorithm development.

  • Lab & Evaluation:

    • Hands-on bench evaluation skills for motor control systems and ICs.

    • Knowledge of IC evaluation experience, semiconductor fabrication, and quality systems.

  • Ability in a language other than English (e.g., Japanese or other regional customer languages) is a benefit.
