Job Description

Applied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterised by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.

Subfamily Description

Standardisation & Open Source (SOS) comprises the development and implementation of a consistent strategy for external standards and forums including open source. It covers management and contribution to standardisation and other forums. It takes a direct role in the management and / or execution of standardisation related bodies and forums and develops / deploys and uses communication and web tools for standardisation purpose, the assistance of organisations in the creation of new forums. It ensures that the company obtains value for money from its investments in external memberships. Contains building up of robust intellectual property assets for Nokia.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Standardization lead you will be part of Nokia's spectrum standardization team. You will work in spectrum regulatory related groups such as ITU-R, CITEL and will represent Nokia on spectrum standardization in the NAM region and towards national administration & policy makers (e.g. NTIA, FCC, ISED, IFT, etc) as well as in discussions with the ecosystem partners. You will also work via industry associations such as GSA or CTIA. As Principal Standardization lead, fundamental responsibility is to maintain regular dialogue/engagements with key customers and key administration and policy makers in the NAM region:

  • Conduct analyses and provide technical recommendations on policies and standards related to global spectrum management, especially for 6G.
  • Represent Nokia on spectrum standardization in global and regional groups as well as in discussions in the ecosystem. In the area of your delegate work you are responsible for defining the Nokia position.
  • Represent Nokia in industry conferences and contribute to renowned publications as part of Nokia thought leadership ambition.
  • Contribute to functional vision and strategy resulting from standardization consideration.
  • Create outside-in insight; recommend on the best course of action for spectrum matters.
  • Consistently interact with key customers with senior experts on standardization-related topics.

Be a spectrum evangelist and help boost Nokia 6G leadership through internal and external communication; develop best practices.

Qualifications

You must have:

  • MSc degree or PhD with strong knowledge on spectrum management and strong technical understanding of radio techniques and system design of 5G as well as an understanding of 6G.
  • Willingness to grow as an expert on spectrum standardization and regulation.
  • Strong problem solving (technical & otherwise), excellent time management, involved team player, self-motivated, creative thinking and strong English verbal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work autonomously.

You should also bring to table:

  • Previous exposure to spectrum management and regulatory policies, working in spectrum administrations or in regional bodies such as CITEL.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills.
  • Identify strategic industry partners & manage relationships with customers & ecosystem partners.
  • Ability to work in a multi-national and distributed team, as well as strong self-motivation.
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML.
