Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for Principal / Senior Principal Engineer Electrical (Lab Design and Operations) to join the team of qualified individuals on our Test and Evaluation team. This role is located onsite in Melbourne, FL.

In this role, the successful candidate will act as an Operations and Electrical Design Engineering Lead for Test & Evaluation’s systems test laboratories. Our team is responsible for the integration of aircraft systems and subsystems into a Lab environment supporting aircraft capabilities and functions. Utilizing systems and subsystems requirements, the candidate will assist in the development of lab requirements and procedures, create electrical design and cable drawings, execute integration activities in a lab environment, and evaluate mission systems functionality. Candidate must have strong technical background, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, in-depth understanding of military aircraft functionality, and demonstrated lab integration experience with a modern software intensive mission systems architecture. This is an individual contributor role and will not have direct reports.

As a lab operations and design engineer, you will be responsible for development and execution of lab system procedures supporting testing of sequential software builds as well as early electrical design efforts to include drawings, work instructions, and cable builds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead test events ranging from developmental to formal testing
  • Establish drawing trees and electrical architecture of the lab environments
  • Establish and maintain standards of test conduct and rigor
  • Effectively manage lab configuration through detailed documentation
  • Accurately communicate lab and test status to leadership via written and oral means
  • Troubleshoot component and system level issues/discrepancies

Basic Qualifications (Principal):

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of related professional/military experience OR a STEM Ph.D. AND 1 years of related professional/military experience

  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.

  • Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final U.S. adjudicated government Top Secret clearance

  • Must have an understanding of mission systems to include RF and satellite communications, message processing, mission systems architecture, air vehicle systems, simulation environments, and/or networking.

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline AND 8 years of related professional/military experience OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 6 years of related professional/military experience OR a STEM Ph.D. AND 4 years of related professional/military experience

  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.

  • Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final U.S. adjudicated government Top Secret clearance

  • Must have an understanding of mission systems to include RF and satellite communications, message processing, mission systems architecture, air vehicle systems, simulation environments, and/or networking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current, active Top Secret clearance
  • Security+ CE or ability to obtain
  • Experience working as an engineer in a system test lab environment
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Design tools (NX, Capital)
  • Experience with CPLM
  • Experienced using Test Equipment, such as digital multimeters, O-scopes, etc.
  • Experienced with Electronic Principles (MIL-STD-1553, RS-232 & 422, ARINC 429, Ethernet & fiber)
  • Familiarity with avionics systems architecture
  • Experience creating, editing and executing installation and checkout (IACO) or Acceptance Test procedures (ATP)
  • Peer leadership and/or supplier management experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
