Position Overview
Autodesk is seeking a highly motivated Principal Software Engineer to join our agile development team! In order to provide a seamless cloud data experience for our customers we’re building our core underlying cloud fabric and kernel that is comprised of massively scalable, always-on, globally deployed cloud services that underpin our customer facing systems and bridges existing products and solutions with our cloud data platform.
We are looking for a Software Engineer who is primarily backend-focused, with strong expertise in Java and Spring, and capable of delivering scalable, reliable cloud-based services while contributing to full-stack solutions as needed. As part of a self-sufficient Scrum team, you will design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend systems, collaborate across functions, and take ownership of features end-to-end. The ideal candidate has experience working on complex systems, can onboard quickly, and operates effectively with minimal supervision.
Roles and Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring / Spring Boot
Work effectively as a member of self-organized agile team that contributes to all aspects of software development from architecture to design to estimation to development to testing to release and maintenance
Design and implement reusable and modular components that fit into existing applications and services
Collaborate closely with architects, product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions
Identify performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and defects, and implement effective solutions
Contribute to frontend components when required to support feature completeness
Leverage analytics to measure performance and monitor availability
Minimum Qualifications
8+ years of Backend Software Development with strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring / Spring Boot
Experience building and maintaining complex, production-grade systems
Solid experience designing REST APIs (JAX-RS, JSON, etc.)
Working knowledge of AWS cloud services
Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, etc.) and ORM frameworks (Hibernate, JPA) etc
Strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, OOP, SOLID principles, and design patterns
Understanding of cloud architecture fundamentals such as scalability, resiliency, caching, logging, and observability
Hands-on experience with JavaScript and basic frontend concepts & frontend frameworks (Angular, React, Vue)
Strong communication and analytical skills
Self-driven, adaptable, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Working knowledge of Splunk (logging and monitoring), Jenkins (CI/CD), Docker and containerization
Exposure to testing frameworks like Cucumber, unit testing and TDD practices
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with using AI tools (Cursor/Github Co-Pilot and prompt engineering)
Experience with CAD, 3D and 2D Geometry
Good understanding of networking and security concepts
Experience contributing to community-driven libraries/SDKs
Experience with Agile software development practices
