Summary Generated by Built In

We're a team with ambitious goals and high expectations of ourselves and the people around us. When our clients thrive, we thrive; that's why we're focused on delivering outcomes above all else. If you're someone who works hard, communicates openly, and wants teammates who genuinely have your back, you'll love it here. If you need a long runway to find your footing, this probably isn't the right fit. We'll invest in your success from day one, but we'll need you investing in ours just as quickly.

The role:

This is a role for an engineer who has learned to hold two things at once: the ability to shape where the platform is going, and the hands-on capability to help get it there. Neither replaces the other. Strategic instincts are only credible because the technical ones stay sharp. Staying in the work is how they stay sharp.

At this level, you're contributing to technical direction, not just executing against it. You're the person others turn to when the problem is hard, the stakes are high, or the path forward isn't clear. You bring structure and clarity to situations that don't have them yet, and you move the team forward without waiting for consensus to find you.

You are fully AI-native. Agents and AI tooling are woven into how you think, explore, design, and build; not as an occasional aid but as a primary means of operating. This is not a preference; it is how we expect engineering at this level to work.

What you'll be doing:

  • Taking hands-on ownership of the most complex and critical technical work: in the code, not just the planning

  • Contributing to long-term technical direction for key areas of the platform, including serverless architecture, event-driven systems, and AI integration

  • Leading solution design for complex, cross-cutting systems, ensuring architectural decisions reflect both technical excellence and long-term business consequences

  • Setting the standard for how AI tools and agents are used and governed across the division, through practice not policy

  • Developing the engineers around you through the quality of your engagement: in design conversations, code review, and direct collaboration

  • Identifying the hard problems before they become expensive, driving the alignment needed to address them, then pursuing the outcome with efficiency

  • Connecting technical decisions to business outcomes, framing strategy in terms that reflect commercial reality

Who you are:

You've spent enough time in the industry to know what good looks like at every layer of the stack, and to know that the most important skill isn't any particular technology. It's judgment: knowing which problems matter, how to frame them well, and how to get to the right outcome with the people and constraints in front of you.

You are deeply AI-native. You use agents and AI tools throughout your entire workflow, from exploration and architecture to coding, debugging, and review. You hold an uncompromising bar for what you ship, regardless of how it was produced. You are as comfortable evaluating AI-generated output critically as you are producing your own.

You don't wait to be pointed at problems. You find them. You don't wait for perfect information to move. You build clarity as you go, and you bring people with you.

The engineers around you get better because of how you engage with them, not through programs or processes, but through the consistency and quality of your presence in the work.

The technical environment:

We build on a modern TypeScript/Node.js stack, deploy on AWS (Lambda, RDS, SQS/SNS, S3, API Gateway, CloudFront, EventBridge), and work across a service-oriented architecture with event-driven patterns throughout. The front end is React.

We're not looking for a checklist match. We're looking for engineers with deep fundamentals and the judgment to go wherever the problem leads. If your experience comes from a different environment and you're excited to translate it, we want to hear from you.

What great looks like here:

The engineers who thrive at Orion want to get better, want the people around them to get better, and default to action over deliberation. At this level, that also means leaving the platform, the team, and thinking meaningfully better than you found them, not someday, but consistently, starting from day one.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to talk.
