The Role
As a member of the Product Development team, you will be responsible for delivering projects related to the technical development, support and maintenance of the company’s customer facing applications and internal applications to defined standards and to a high quality. You will champion areas of technologies, assist in defining standards, interact and communicate with other areas of the business, gather requirements and effectively manage expectations.
As a Senior Engineer you will have a strong working knowledge of the design, development and maintenance of web-based applications. You will develop solutions, from often complex requirements, to defined standards and will be seen as an expert of the relevant technology stack. You will keep on top of the latest technologies and bring innovation and motivation to the team. You will aid other team members in a coaching and mentoring capacity and be expected to work as part of an autonomous team.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure the squad develop robust, resilient solutions.
- Champion Solera Standards – encouraging others to do the same
- Maintain a strong technical understanding and promote the use of the latest software and technologies.
- Provide regular feedback to, and coaching of, the Tribe members to ensure improvement of individual performance and contribution to project deliverables.
- Represent Product Development with stakeholders both within and outside of allocated Tribe.
- Work with Architecture to define, maintain and ensure adherence to technical standards.
- Advocate Testing practices and champion the rollout of automation within the business area of remit.
- Suggest and deliver continuous improvement items aligned with the strategic direction of Product Development.
- Suggest innovative approaches to new and existing ways of working.
- Tech Debt – take ownership, lead the squad to do the same and discuss prioritisation with Product.
- Align with wider department.
- Promote strong morale within the squads.
- What You’ll Bring
- Technical Experience
- As a Principal Engineer within the Development Team, you should have: -
- Over 3 years’ experience being a Technical Lead in the team
- Over 10 years’ experience of delivering IT development projects
- A related degree or equivalent qualifications / experience
Required:
- Java – up to v21
- Spring (including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Batch)
- Java Webapps (such as Tomcat 11 / Websphere, Spring MVC)
- Apache, Nginx
- CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Concourse, Git, GitLab, Octopus
- Stored Procedures (MSSQL, DB2, Mongo, Postgres)
- Agile Methodologies - Scrum, Kanban, Pair Programming, TDD
Desirable:
- Test tooling - Selenium, JUnit, Mockito, PowerMock, Karma, Jasmine
- REST/JSON APIs (Swagger, HATEOAS)
- Build tools (Maven, Ant)
- Unix
- JavaScript (including JSON, Typescript, AngularJS/Angular)
- ELK stack
