Position Overview
Autodesk is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the Autodesk Platform Services Team. The team delivers high-value, exabyte-scale data streaming platform powering desktop, mobile, and web products. This enables our product teams to build cohesive in-product data experiences, our partners to integrate, search and expand granular data across all Autodesk products.
You will report to the Senior Manager - Software Development based in Dublin, Ireland. You will be part of the team who creates amazing things and will learn from some of the best in the industry! Our team enables real-time data-centric experiences at scale to make a difference for all of those who imagine, design, and make our world. This team operate in a hybrid working model from our office in Dublin.
Responsibilities
- You will lead all aspects of software development, working to create and maintain the most reliable, secure, scalable and high traffic service for our customers by leveraging cloud and data streaming technologies
- You will lead team level outcomes and initiatives across functions
- Lead and contribute to data streaming platform capabilities across Autodesk
- Exhibit steadfast leadership and makes substantial contributions to large-scale, intricate projects that frequently entail collaboration among multiple engineers and cross-functional teams
- Demonstrate impact and influence across divisions on efficient, scalable, secure data processing pipelines
- Come up with innovative solutions for resilient data streaming platform at scale
- Excel at offering guidance and dismantling obstacles for both your Scrum team and broader colleagues
- Spearheading solutions for uncertain milestones, commencing with the clarification of requirements, progressing through meticulous scope planning and execution, and culminating in the vigilant oversight of fellow contributors, thereby ensuring the punctual and triumphant delivery of milestones
- You will collaborate with software architects, product managers, and other stakeholders to iteratively transform high-level requirements into product enhancements that are delivered to consumers incrementally
- You will contribute to software design and architecture by injecting your cloud expertise into the entire development lifecycle. Improve the performance and productivity of your team by bringing in ideas and improve team processes and collaboration
- Exhibits ownership of domain/large-scale platforms encompassing end-to-end responsibilities from Engineering Practices, Solutions, Quality, and Deployment to Support.
- Act as a driving force for enhancing Engineering Practices within a designated platform while simultaneously functioning as an influential multiplier for the team, offering valuable guidance and unwavering support
- Lead technical discussions across the org driving the results and business outcomes
- Demonstrate leadership in incident calls driving investigation and timely resolution of incidents. Drive actions for improvements within and outside the team
- Provide technical guidance to both your team members and your project peers Thoroughly and accurately document and present your ideas and solutions to a variety of stakeholders
- Recommend best practices around design and architecture
- Participate and advise in code reviews.
- Document and present your ideas and solutions accurately and thoroughly
- Keep up to date with latest trends and technologies to anticipate future development needs and requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field or relevant experience
- 9+ years of hands-on experience in software design, development of cloud services, data streaming/transformations. Experience leading a fast paced engineering teams.
- Excellent experience in Java, python and other programming languages.
- Hands-on experience with AWS. Demonstrate senior-level experience with AWS services, specifically S3, Lambda, SQS/SNS, and databases (Aurora, DynamoDB).
- Hands-on experience with data streaming, transformation, and ETL technologies.
- Excellent experience in Apache Flink, Kinesis, Kafka.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, large-scale cloud and data streaming projects involving multiple teams/functions
- Strong problem-solving skills and capability to work on complex systems
- Experience in working in an Agile environment
- Experience in working with distributed team
- Proven capability to lead incident response, drive root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures
- API development experience (REST)
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and experience working with a deployment pipeline such as Jenkins
- Experience with Databases and database design principles at cloud scale
- Experience with building scalable systems and services in the cloud
- Experience with Observability tools like Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana.
- Good understanding of architectural patterns, design principles, and best engineering practices.
- Passionate about building and motivating engineering teams Experience with driving organizational strategic initiatives
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience collaborating in a dispersed multicultural team to deliver projects, sometimes responsible for leading initiatives
- A perpetual learner and often find yourself ideating about new and improved ways of doing things and are confident to share your ideas with the rest of the engineering team.
