Principal Software Engineer

Location: Krakow, Poland (Hybrid)

Position Overview

Autodesk Operations Solutions is building a next-generation cloud platform – Tandem - that connects data and workflows across the whole manufacturing and facility lifecycle: from manufacturing engineering, process and facility design, production simulation to plant operations, monitoring and maintenance.

We are expanding our engineering presence in Krakow and are looking for a Principal Software Engineer (Backend/Full Stack) to help shape the future of Autodesk Operations Solutions. This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on contributing to platform strategy and architecture (partnering with experienced Autodesk senior architects) and delivering scalable cloud-native services that support mission-critical customer workflows.

You will work solve complex engineering challenges and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on with design and development.

This is a unique opportunity to help build a growing engineering organization in Poland while contributing to global software solutions that make a real difference.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native services that support high-volume production workloads – with focus on backend services while contributing to frontend development when needed.

  • Contribute towards the technical vision and architecture for critical platform services.

  • Establish engineering standards, architectural patterns, and best practices that improve platform quality, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, and Engineering leaders to align technical investments with business objectives.

  • Guide teams through complex technical challenges, balancing long-term architecture with near-term delivery goals.

  • Lead design reviews, provide technical mentorship.

  • Contribute hands-on to software development across full stack technologies with focus on Go/C++ backends and React frontends (flexibly adapting to other technologies where appropriate)

  • Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance optimization

  • Champion operational excellence through observability, automation, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement practices.

  • Participate in Agile planning and execution activities while helping teams continuously improve delivery practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale commercial software systems.

  • Proven experience leading architecture and delivery of complex platform initiatives spanning multiple teams.

  • Expertise in software engineering with strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Go, C++, TypeScript, Node.js, C#, Python, Java or similar (Experience with Go and C++ is particularly valued)

  • Experience designing distributed systems, microservices, cloud-native applications and API design

  • Experience with any modern cloud platform such as AWS (preferred) or Azure.

  • Strong understanding of data architecture and database technologies.

  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and modern software delivery practices.

  • Strong understanding of system design, scalability, reliability, security, and performance optimization.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building multi-tenant B2B SaaS platforms.

  • Experience operating large-scale cloud services in production environments.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerized workloads, and cloud observability practices.

  • Experience building Progressive Web Applications (PWAs) and micro frontends.

  • Experience with WebGL, 3D visualization technologies, or digital twin platforms.

  • Familiarity with industrial and manufacturing domains (design, simulation, digital twin, operations), Smart Factory / Industry 4.0 solutions, facility operations, asset management, AEC etc.

  • Familiarity with industrial simulation technologies, including discrete event simulation.

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
