Principal Software Engineer – Quality Engineering and Testing (CommSec)

As the Principal Software Quality Engineer in CommSec, you will lead and contribute to the development of automation processes and capabilities, with a focus on streamlining attestation and reporting automation to uplift CommSec's quality engineering capabilities.

The ideal candidate will design, implement, and optimize scalable automation frameworks to ensure robust testing and reporting pipelines. You will be responsible to ensure implementation of high-quality standards and practices across all software development efforts.

As the Principal Software Engineer, you will build foundational quality processes that span development, testing, and deployment to ensure consistency and efficiency in delivery, driving high-quality standards and practices across all software development efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and quality first mindset within the engineering teams.
  • Mentor team members on best practices for quality implementation and automation outcomes
  • Develop, design, implement, and optimize scalable automation frameworks and comprehensive quality engineering strategy that aligns with organizational and engineering practice’s goals and business objectives.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to communicate the quality strategy, aligning on objectives and expectations.
  • Ensure effective collaboration to drive quality initiatives forward and track their success across the business.

Tech Skills:

  • Proven hands-on capability in leading, designing, executing and implementing automation frameworks and quality engineering strategies across diverse tehcnical teams.
  • Strong coding skills in multiple programming languages, software development components and modern development tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, etc.)
  • Experience with large-scale software systems in cloud-based environments with a focus on automation and quality assurance tools.
  • Exposure to Agile and DevSecOps ways of working including continuous integration/continuous deployment, security practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and influencing stakeholders across multiple teams to drive quality initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
