As a Software Engineer on the Roblox game engine team, you will work with us on software ecosystem development of the embedded scripting languages in the Roblox engine. To make tomorrow's top games, developers on the Roblox platform need more than just a scripting environment that works–they need advanced programming interfaces, efficient set of script libraries, comprehensive sets of development tools, and an ultra-fast, multithreaded runtime. Join our team and help drive the development of a new set of programming interfaces and advanced tooling features that will be used by millions of developers daily. You will be part of our Game Engine Programmability team.

You Will:

  • Help our team with prototyping and developing creator programming models  to allow scripts to scale better across multiple CPU cores and even multiple computer systems. 
  • To increase confidence in our designs we need to create prototypes to exercise our designs on realistic use cases and assess if they are fit for purpose and whether or not performance metrics for the solutions meet our goals
  • Collaborate with engineers on our various engine and partner teams
  • Find out how Roblox is so special and how you can harness that to provide thoughtful environments using industry-leading techniques across all platforms

You Are:

  • Passionate about developing software programming environment for other game developers: You're excited about bringing the concepts learned from other gaming or general software development environments to this new and exciting scripting ecosystem
  • Proficient in C++ and familiar with parallel/concurrent programming concepts 
  • It will be a plus if you have a good hands-on experience developing APIs and tools, Game development, distributed systems and Lua/Luau programming knowledge
  • Self-motivated: You're experienced in working with complex codebases with minimal oversight
  • Responsible: You build systems that work and keep on working reliably.
  • Curious: You want to learn. You stay informed about the latest developments in scripting languages and programming environments

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$283,780$331,640 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
