Roblox's Application Networking team is executing a strategic transformation. We're moving from diverse legacy solutions to a unified, modern, open-source-based platform built around Envoy and Istio. This is a unique opportunity for a Principal Engineer to architect, build, and scale the critical infrastructure connecting and securing all Roblox applications – from user-facing gateways to the mesh connecting thousands of microservices, now including our rapidly expanding Kubernetes environment. You will tackle complex challenges related to immense scale, high reliability, state-of-the-art security, performance optimization, and hybrid environment networking
You will:
- Set the technical vision of the application networking domain
- Lead the execution to deliver on the vision
- Deliver high-quality code and design while holding a high bar for the team
- Influence the technical direction across networking and infrastructure
- Mentor and grow engineers on the team
You have:
- 8+ years of experience; You are an engineer building large-scale systems that influence the whole company with 8+ years of professional experience
- Expertise in gateways and the application networking domain
- Excellent communication who works well within and across teams
- Experience as a problem solver and leading on-calls for critical infrastructure systems
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
