Position Purpose:

The Principal Software Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for architecting and delivering next-generation, AI-powered customer platforms that enable personalized, data-driven experiences at enterprise scale. This role combines deep expertise in Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and agent-based systems with strong knowledge of customer data ecosystems, CRM platforms, and distributed architecture.

This leader drives the design and development of AI-enabled applications leveraging Google Gemini Agent Development Kit (ADK), Vertex AI, and related agentic frameworks, advancing capabilities in intelligent automation, multi-agent orchestration, and AI-driven workflows. They establish best practices for model deployment, evaluation, governance, and responsible AI usage across the organization.

As a key technical authority, the Principal Software Engineer defines architecture and integration strategies that unify Master Data Management (MDM), Customer Identity Resolution, and Salesforce-based CRM ecosystems across complex, multi-brand and multi-business-unit environments. They ensure scalable, secure, and resilient solutions through modern enterprise architecture patterns, including APIs, microservices, and event-driven systems powered by technologies such as Apache Kafka.

This role also champions modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD, DevSecOps, automated testing, and cloud-native development on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), enabling high-performing teams to deliver with speed, quality, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 70% Delivery & Execution

  • Collaborates and pairs with other product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions

  • Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met

  • Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases

  • Writes custom code or scripts to do "destructive testing" to ensure adequate resiliency in production

  • Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively

  • Contributes to enterprise-wide tools to drive destructive testing, automation, or engineering empowerment

  • Identifies product enhancements (client-facing or technical) to create a better experience for the end users

  • Identifies unsecured code areas and implements fixes as they are discovered with or without tooling

  • Identifies, implements, and shares technical solutions that can be used across the organization

  • Creates and architects foundational code elements that can be reused many times by a product

  • Creates meaningful architecture diagrams and other documentation needed for security reviews or other interested parties

  • Defines Service Level Objectives for product to constantly measure their reliability in production and help prioritize backlog work

  • 20% Support & Enablement:

  • Fields questions from other product teams or support teams

  • Monitors tools and participates in conversations to encourage collaboration across product teams

  • Provides application support for software running in production

  • Proactively monitors production Service Level Objectives for products

  • Works with vendors and the open-source community to help identify and implement feature enhancements in software products

  • Works with other product teams to create API specifications and contracts for shared data

  • Proactively reviews the performance and capacity of all aspects of production: code, infrastructure, data, and message processing

  • Triages high priority issues and outages as they arise

  • 10% Learning:

  • Participates in and leads learning activities around modern software design and development core practices (communities of practice)

  • Learns, through reading, tutorials, and videos, new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizations

  • Attends conferences and learns how to apply new technologies where appropriate

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • Typically reports to the Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director.

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven experience designing and developing AI-powered applications using Google Gemini Agent Development Kit (ADK) and related agentic AI frameworks.  

  • Strong understanding of Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), including model deployment, orchestration, evaluation, and governance using Google Vertex AI. Hands-on experience building and deploying AI agents, multi-agent systems, or AI-driven workflows is highly desirable.  

  • Deep knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM), customer data architecture, and Customer Identity Resolution strategies across complex, multi-brand, multi-business-unit, or multi-organizational environments.  

  • Extensive experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms and customer engagement ecosystems, with strong expertise in Salesforce products and architecture, including integration patterns, data models, and enterprise-scale implementations.  

  • Strong background in Enterprise Architecture and distributed systems, including event-driven architecture, APIs, microservices, and integration technologies such as Apache Kafka 

  • Experience establishing modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, automated testing, source control, and developer productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot, VS Code, and cloud-native development environments.  

  • Hands-on experience building and operating solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including architecture, security, scalability, observability, and operational excellence.  

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, build consensus, and effectively persuade and influence technical and business stakeholders across all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, product teams, architects, engineering teams, vendors, and strategic partners.  

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with a proven track record of driving cross-functional alignment, resolving competing priorities, and leading complex technology initiatives from strategy through execution.
