About the Role:

The Finance and Finance Technology teams build and operate Remitly's global financial systems — moving money, managing treasury operations, reconciling transactions, maintaining the ledger, and supporting financial compliance. We are now redesigning the Finance Platform from the ground up to scale with our growth.

As a Principal Software Engineer for the Finance Platform, you will be a critical member of the team driving the design, architecture, and delivery of the next-generation platform that underpins all of Remitly's financial operations.

You will report to the Director of Engineering for Finance Technology and will be part of the broader Engineering Leadership Team.You will provide deep technical expertise, help define long-term technical strategy, mentor engineers, and influence decision-making across teams.

This is a unique chance to build a brand-new platform at scale, drive impact across the business, and grow with us as we redefine finance at Remitly.

You Will:

  • Provide Technical Leadership on complex, high-impact, cross-team engineering initiatives.
  • Set the technical vision for the Finance Platform in partnership with product, compliance, treasury, accounting, and engineering teams.
  • Architect scalable, reliable, and auditable systems to track, move, and reconcile money around the world.
  • Influence and drive multi-year technical roadmaps, balancing near-term deliverables with long-term scalability and operational excellence.
  • Model Remitly's cultural values and foster an environment of inclusion, innovation, and excellence.

You Have:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in one or more general purpose programming languages such as Java, Go, Python.
  • 10+ years of overall software development experience including leading development of reliable, available and scalable distributed systems (preferably using a Microservices architecture).
  • Experience as a technical leader on complex engineering projects with several engineers and working in partnership with multiple partners such as Product Managers, Designers or Data Scientists.
  • Experience driving and building long term technical strategy across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience mentoring engineers up to Senior levels.

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $208,000-$260,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
