Your Role and ResponsibilitiesIn this role, we are looking for a Principal Architect – Enterprise AI Platforms to join our Industrial Automation Digital Organization. You will provide strategic technical leadership in defining the architecture, engineering standards, and technology roadmap for ABB's next-generation Enterprise AI Platforms, including Copilot ecosystems, Agentic AI frameworks, LLMOps capabilities, and intelligent automation solutions.
Working closely with Product Management, Engineering Leadership, AI/ML Engineers, Platform Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Cloud teams, you will drive architecture governance, mentor engineering organizations, and ensure scalable, secure, and resilient AI platform delivery using Python, .NET, Angular, Microsoft Azure, and modern cloud-native technologies.
This role is contributing to the Process Automation – Digital Industry Analytics / Research & Development organization in Bangalore, India.

You will be mainly accountable for
- Define and govern enterprise architecture standards, technical roadmaps, and engineering best practices for AI platforms, ensuring scalable, secure, resilient, and cloud-native solutions that support Copilot, Agentic AI, and intelligent automation capabilities.
- Lead the architecture and design of enterprise AI platforms by driving High-Level and Low-Level Design (HLD/LLD), AI governance, LLMOps, Model Context Protocol (MCP), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), platform integrations, observability, and cybersecurity strategies.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Architects, Technical Leads, and engineering teams while collaborating with Product Management, AI/ML, DevOps, Cloud, Security, and Customer Success organizations to deliver strategic platform initiatives.
- Drive engineering excellence through architecture governance, design reviews, CI/CD and DevSecOps adoption, performance optimization, documentation standards, Agile delivery practices, and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise software engineering, solution architecture, and technical leadership with expertise in designing large-scale cloud-native platforms and distributed systems.
- Strong expertise in Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), LLMOps, Agentic AI, Model Context Protocol (MCP), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI governance, vector databases, and enterprise AI platform architecture.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure OpenAI Service, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure App Services, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, cloud security, Kubernetes, Docker, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and DevSecOps practices.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, microservices, asynchronous programming, distributed systems, scalability, resiliency, observability, performance optimization, and secure API design.
- Proven experience leading architecture reviews, mentoring engineering teams, establishing engineering governance, and collaborating with global cross-functional stakeholders in Agile environments.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills, with exposure to Industrial IoT technologies such as MQTT and OPC UA considered an advantage.

Skills Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, Data Science, or related
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, enterprise architecture, and technical leadership
- Expert knowledge of LLMOps principles, Agentic AI systems, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) architectures
- Hands-on experience with Python, .NET, and Angular in enterprise applications

- Deep understanding of model lifecycle management, orchestration frameworks, AI governance, and production-scale AI deployment
- Strong understanding of scalable distributed systems, microservices architectures, data structures, algorithms, and asynchronous programming models
- Proven experience mentoring technical teams and driving engineering governance and architecture reviews
- Excellent communication, documentation, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Understanding of IIoT protocols and standards such as MQTT and OPC UA
