Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Systems Test Engineer / Principal Systems Test Engineer, specialized in hardware/software integration and lab operations to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering, Integration and Test organization. This role is located in Roy, Utah.


In this role you will be supporting Lab Operations. Duties will consist of assisting with laboratory design, test planning and preparation, scheduling of test events, and assisting in the execution of integration checkout procedures. In this role you will ensure test stations and assets are configured and ready to test by deploying software and configuring hardware on test stations. In addition, you will work closely with MA to maintain and validate test station software and hardware configuration. Participation in test readiness reviews, acceptance testing and integration events will also be required. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of detailed plans, schedules for integration checkout procedures
  • Contribute to test development and review in collaboration with other engineering disciplines, systems test and engineering management
  • Ability to develop and execute software installation, integration, and acceptance test procedures
  • Coordinate test equipment and personnel requirements for safe and efficient execution of tests
  • Provide test support and make real-time decisions regarding safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the configuration management of the lab
  • Serve as the focal point between internal and external organizations to develop test data requirements
  • Excellent communication skills required, must work well in a team environment, and must work independently to solve a variety of complex problems
  • Responsible to ensure engineering tests serve mission objectives and mechanisms are in place to execute the tests. Responsible for testing all customer samples.
  • Oversees the operational aspects of engineering tests and serves as liaison to program, engineering and line management.
  • Reviews status of test requirements, manages schedules and prepares reports.
  • Selects and supervises technicians during test.
  • Assesses anomalies and develops resolutions to documented procedures in conjunction with Test and Quality Engineering.
  • Knowledgeable in Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 and AS9100), specifically, asset accountability, tool/part inventory, and calibration tracking.
  • Knowledgeable in Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S), specifically, OSHA requirements, EPA requirements, and Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in component safety when it comes to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Foreign Object Debris/Elimination (FOD/FOE).
  • Coordinate test equipment and personnel requirements for safe and efficient execution of tests.
  • Contribute to the configuration management of labs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal T03 Level: 5 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics); Master's degree with 3 years of experience; PhD with 1 years of experience; additional 4 years in lieu of a degree.
  • Senior T04 Level: 8 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics); Master's degree with 6 years of experience; PhD with 4 years of experience; additional 4 years in lieu of a degree.

For Both:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, or current and within scope (< 6 yrs), with an ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
  • 1+ years of experience with test equipment use and system troubleshooting
  • 1+ years of experience in lab integration and test activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CPLM tool and release process
  • Can provide guidance on System Administration decisions for License/OS/Software updates and maintenance, user account maintenance and tracking of software approvals
  • Knowledgeable in procurement processes in the support of asset, material, and software license orders

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
