As a member of our global Product Innovation team for dispensing, the Principal Research and Development Engineer initiates the design, development, execution and implementation technical investigations. A successful Principal Research and Development Engineer applies principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems resulting in a healthy product development pipeline. Assignments involve problems of diverse and complex scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
Role and Responsibilities
- Investigates the feasibility of technical approaches by applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.
- Plans and executes laboratory experiments.
- Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories. Contributes to scientific literature and conferences.
- Participate in the development and strategy of patent applications.
- May coordinate interdepartmental and global research efforts.
- Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Regularly interacts with executives and/or top customers promoting and demonstrating Nordson’s technical knowledge
- Coordinates with Growth and Strategy team to ensure healthy product development pipeline
- May lead projects of large scope

Skills and Qualifications
- Requires a Doctoral degree or a Masters degree with more than ten years of related experience.
- Must have a wide range of experience using professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issue in creative and effective ways.
- Must have solid fundamental knowledge in physical sciences and engineering disciplines.
- Practical experience with fluid dynamics, machine design, machine learning, and/or design of experiments a plus.
- Deal with variety of abstract and concrete variables
- Read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents
- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community
- Author speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
