The Principal QA is recognized as the quality champion for the domain, shaping testing standards, driving automation maturity, influencing tooling strategy, and ensuring that Amadeus products meet the highest safety, compliance, and performance expectations.

Common Accountabilities

  • Technical Leadership
    Proficient in technical knowledge, ensuring teams perform at a high level; recognized as a leader in the QA discipline with the ability to train Specialists and Senior Specialists.

    Understands key business drivers influencing the Flight Baggage & Ramp Operations domain. Able to assess complex problems with broad organizational impact, drive process improvements, and recommend risk mitigation strategies.

  • Autonomy & Cross‑Functional Influence
    Operates with high autonomy; leads or contributes to large, cross‑functional initiatives, and may contribute to resource planning and budget discussions.

  • Communication Excellence
    Capable of communicating complex technical and functional concepts in an accessible, structured manner to diverse stakeholders including engineering, product, operations, and customer teams.

Specific Accountabilities

1. Technical Excellence

  • Demonstrate mastery of QA methodologies, including functional, non‑functional, performance, security, and regression testing approaches.

  • For complex or cross‑functional solutions, analyze, design, document, and execute test strategies, standards, and procedures.

  • Lead defect lifecycle management: document defects clearly, analyze root causes, propose corrective and preventive actions.

  • Master QA tools, test environments, continuous testing pipelines, and automation frameworks.

  • Drive evolution and adoption of automation strategies (API, UI, system integration, performance), ensuring scalable and repeatable validation across baggage and ramp operations workflows.

2. Functional Excellence

  • Hold domain understanding of Flight Baggage Handling Systems (BHS), Baggage Reconciliation Systems (BRS), Ramp Operations, Load Control interfaces, and related business processes and industry regulations.

  • Ensure test coverage reflects real operational scenarios (e.g., bag journey, no‑read/mis‑read flows, offload handling, ramp exception scenarios, turnaround operations).

  • Lead customer triages, debugging sessions, and operational incident analysis—supporting the team in reproducing field issues in-house.

  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance system stability, prevent production defects, and reduce operational disruption for airline and airport users.

3. QA Framework & Methodology Evolution

  • Participate in internal/external QA forums; lead department-level discussions on testing methodology, frameworks, tooling, automation strategy, and quality governance.

  • Influence the evolution of TestOps, environment management, synthetic data strategy, and quality engineering best practices for the domain.

  • Strive to maintain extremely high-quality standards for Amadeus Baggage/Ramp products, focusing on reliability, safety, and performance.

4. Innovation, Quality Measurement & Compliance

  • Contribute to patents, innovation initiatives, and technical events within the QA and aviation operations domain.

  • Propose relevant KPIs and ensure their efficient measurement.

  • Ensure compliance with Amadeus Quality Standards across all deliverables.

  • Promote existing QA tools to avoid duplication; evaluate gaps and recommend improvements in tools and environments.

  • Contribute to understanding, measuring, and reducing the environmental footprint of testing workloads and environments.

5. Building Relations & Knowledge Sharing

  • Coach, mentor, and train QA Engineers, SDEs, PDAs, and cross‑functional peers on quality engineering, test architecture, and automation excellence.

  • Actively contribute to the onboarding program for new team members.

  • Provide consulting support to engineering and product teams on automation, test coverage, data strategy, and root-cause prevention.

  • Participate in Quality and Principal QA Engineer community events.

Required Skills & Experience

12+ years of industry experience.

Technical Skills

  • Expert in QA methodologies, automation frameworks (e.g., Python/Java automation, UI frameworks, API testing tools), CI/CD pipelines, and test data management.

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, messaging, microservices, and cloud/hybrid architectures.

  • Experience with performance engineering and large‑scale system validation.

Domain Skills

  • Ability to connect business scenarios to technical validation, ensuring that QA reflects true operational complexity.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical mindset for diagnosing complex problems in production-like environments.

  • Influencing and stakeholder management across cross-functional teams, including Ops, Engineering, Product, and Customer Success.

  • Excellent communication skills for customer-facing interactions, incident reviews, and technical discussions.
