The Principal Project Engineer is accountable for delivering major Capital Projects that enable the production capacity growth of our world class manufacturing platforms and supporting systems. You will be directly responsible for developing scope, schedules, and budgets for new manufacturing line installations, capital equipment retrofits, and process utility system upgrades. The successful candidate will take an active role in utilization of contracted services and contribute to the design and delivery of appropriate contracts and agreements that provide an adequate labor pool for all needed services. The candidate must have a strong track record in deploying successful capital projects within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead multi-functional teams (internal and external to Engineering) and influence business decisions around optimal scope approaches. Supervise the activities of a multi-disciplined staff that may change in size and composition from project to project.
Accountable for delivering end to end site priority capital projects that span new production capacity delivery, equipment upgrades, brand conversions, and utility installation/commissioning.
Establishes project timeline, objectives, priorities, and targets for major capital projects. Responsible for aligning scope and execution plans required to meet business objectives, building cost estimates, and obtaining capital appropriation approval from senior leadership.
Responsible for tracking project progress, attaining CAPEX spending targets, and developing metrics to ensure continuous improvement within the engineering project office.
Specifies design parameters for equipment required for new initiatives. Provides technical interpretation and expertise to ensure adherence to policies, good engineering practices, and customer specifications.
Keeps Business Leadership informed on project and program status by presenting progress against established targets.
Develops and evaluates new concepts to stay competitive and current with the industry. Researches business and technical advancements within the industry and identify where improvements are applicable on site.
Oversees Independent Contractor agencies and assignees to ensure compliance and performance to SOW requirements. Ensures Independent Contractors bill for services as work completed progresses in accordance with Statement of Work in a compliant fashion.
Provides a strong & ethical leadership style which reflects the standards and expectations outlined in the Johnson & Johnson Credo.
Qualifications
Education:
A minimum of bachelor’s degree is required (preferably in Engineering) A Masters in Science, Engineering, or Business is highly preferred.
Required:
A minimum of 6 years of related work experience.
Experience leading multi-functional teams to deliver capital projects to plan within a manufacturing environment.
Experience owning the scoping, installation, commissioning, and validation activities for automated process equipment.
Familiarity with FDA regulatory standards and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Experience developing budgets and business case proposals that lead to the acquiring of capital appropriations in excess of $1M USD.
Proven track record of effectively forecasting project cash flows and consistently achieving targets.
Familiar with Process Safety Management and Process Hazard Analysis for equipment installations and qualifications within PSM governed areas.
Other:
8+ years experience leading capital projects with budgets over $10MM is strongly preferred.
This position could have up to 10% travel both domestic and/or international.
Certification in a Project Management framework such as Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.
Experience in Medical Device or Pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
