The Role: 

The Principal Project Engineer supports the planning and execution of large capital expenditure projects. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and cross-functional coordination across engineering, operations, maintenance, procurement, construction, project management, and external EPC resources to help ensure project work is delivered safely, effectively, and in alignment with SI Group engineering standards and business objectives.

 

 

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Lead and coordinate engineering reviews to confirm design quality, technical accuracy, constructability, maintainability, and compliance with SI Group engineering standards.

  • Own design quality and engineering deliverables, ensuring multidisciplinary inputs are incorporated and action items are resolved.

  • Review technical documents, drawings, specifications, design packages, and contractor deliverables throughout FEED and detailed design.

  • Provide technical oversight of EPC resources, engineering contractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure work products meet project requirements and SI Group expectations.

Project Execution, Controls, and Technical Support: 

  • Coordinate technical interfaces between EPC teams, project management, site operations, maintenance, environmental, procurement, and construction stakeholders.

  • Track technical deliverables, facilitate reviews, communicate status, and escalate issues that may impact project scope, schedule, cost, quality, or safety.

  • Support field execution by serving as a technical liaison between engineering, construction contractors, operations, maintenance, and project management.

  • Review construction questions, field changes, technical clarifications, and turnover requirements to ensure alignment with approved scope and design intent.

  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve technical issues that arise during design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.

  • Engage subject matter experts and site stakeholders to develop practical solutions that support safe, efficient, and reliable project execution.

  • Support scope definition, cost and schedule management, funding updates, and project prioritization by providing timely technical input to project leadership.

  • Provide technical input for procurement packages, bid evaluations, vendor documentation, equipment selection, and supplier technical clarifications.

  • Lead or support technical risk reviews, design reviews, PSM-related reviews, and other project assurance activities.

  • Identify and help mitigate technical, safety, operability, maintainability, and startup risks in collaboration with project and site stakeholders.

  • Support commissioning, turnover, and startup readiness planning to ensure systems, documentation, training, punch lists, and technical checks are complete.

  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, engineering, construction, and project management to resolve readiness gaps before startup.

  • Provide technical support during startup to help ensure safe, reliable, and timely transition to operations.

 

Creating Extraordinary Starts With:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Equivalent Experience 

  • Strong MS-Excel, Word, Power-point, Maintenance Connection skills

  • Experience working with all levels of an organization to solve problems

  • Master's degree in engineering or MBA is preferred

  • Experience in chemical manufacturing, construction, or plant engineering is preferred
