Your Role: Principal IT Product Manager – Finance

At Elanco, we empower our technology and product teams to deliver enterprise-scale digital solutions that solve complex challenges. As a Principal IT Product Manager, you will lead the strategy, discovery, and delivery of core technology platforms, ERP systems, automation, and data products that power Elanco’s Finance operations globally.

You will operate as a 'player-coach,' directly driving high-impact initiatives while mentoring a small, high-performing team of Product Managers. This role requires deep IT product management expertise—partnering with engineering, architecture, and data science teams to design and scale digital products that modernize Finance. Your work will reduce manual effort, accelerate close and reporting cycles, ensure global compliance, and equip Finance with advanced planning, forecasting, and analytics capabilities.

This is an ideal opportunity for a leader who possesses the strategic depth of a Principal Product Manager but also has a passion for growing and mentoring talent. You will be responsible for both your team's success and for personally driving key technology initiatives that enable Finance to align business strategies with financial outcomes.

Initially you will drive innovation and efficiency in digital platforms, leveraging your expertise in ERP, automation, and data. As part of a dynamic team, you will have opportunities to broaden your impact by transitioning into other product areas as priorities evolve, aligning your career trajectory with emerging opportunities across Elanco's diverse product landscape.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Oversee strategic technology product lines and/or lead critical initiatives with high-impact objectives and influence Elanco's strategic trajectory.

  • Apply extensive IT product management skills in planning, execution, and strategy deployment.

  • Exhibit thought leadership in representing Elanco’s digital and product vision globally and internally.

  • Mentor cross-functional teams (engineering, architecture, data science, finance), ensuring seamless integration and value delivery.

  • Consistently align product management practices with technological advancements (cloud, ERP, automation, data platforms) to streamline processes and increase team velocity.

  • Lead enterprise-scale technology initiatives assuring alignment with corporate strategies.

  • Lead multiple technology workstreams or a product area—balancing resources across competing priorities.

Problem Solving:
  • Manage complex technology product developments proactively, addressing strategic challenges with innovative digital solutions.

  • Own key performance indicators (KPIs) for product portfolio, and mentor team on using data to drive prioritization and validate hypotheses.

  • Guide teams in thoroughly detailing problems they tackle, ensuring technical feasibility and applying effective risk mitigation.

Communication:
  • Articulate and communicate strategic initiatives across Elanco’s corporate and IT landscape.

  • Connect other PMs and technology teams to broader strategy.

  • Represent Elanco and present technology product strategy at industry conferences, in customer councils, and to senior leadership.

  • Engage with VP/C-level stakeholders, framing technology decisions and representing the product organization at senior forums.

Independence:
  • Lead strategic planning, shaping sustainable digital and technology directions while maintaining alignment with Elanco’s objectives.

  • Navigate budgetary and strategic boundaries with confidence, scaling enterprise technology solutions to meet broader corporate aims.

  • Spearhead corporate strategy alignment, ensuring decisive actions in both product vision and market leadership.

  • Make trade-offs at the portfolio level and help guide other PMs to align technology backlogs to enterprise strategy.

Leadership:
  • Lead cross-product technology strategy and guide other Product Managers where their products intersect.

  • Provide direct/indirect leadership to other PMs, especially in IT and ERP product areas.

  • Influence outside direct span of control (e.g., shared services, engineering, finance leaders).

  • Build frameworks and repeatable practices that elevate technology product management maturity across the team.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Business).

  • 10+ years in technology, with at least 7+ years in a dedicated IT Product Management role, successfully scaling or transforming technology portfolios with measurable business outcomes.

  • 3–5 years managing other Product Managers (either formally or informally as a group lead).

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (preferred qualifications):
  • ERP & Systems Experience: Hands-on experience with large-scale ERP transformations (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, Oracle, Workday) and familiarity with modern financial planning, analytics, or reporting tools.

  • Deep Technology Fluency: Experience delivering enterprise-scale digital platforms, automation, APIs, cloud-native systems, and data-driven products.

  • Finance Domain Knowledge: Exposure to building technology solutions for corporate finance functions such as FP&A, Accounting, Tax, or Treasury.

  • Global Experience managing products and stakeholders in a complex, global organization.

  • An MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Technology, or a related field is a plus.
