Role Description:
The Principal Product Engineer will work in the Flotation product group consisting of Forced Air and Self Aspirated mechanical flotation cells, Column flotation cells, and Attrition mixing cells. This engineer will provide expert judgement and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems. This engineer will also be responsible for engineering project management and overall design integrity of product while ensuring projects meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
Role Purpose:
The Principal Product Engineer is responsible to support R&D, maintain product integrity, ensure products meet customer specifications, and manage the engineering deliverables of sold projects.
Key Accountabilities:
Management of Engineering Deliverables
- Review, understand and communicate project technical specifications and requirements
- Work with and advise IOD PM and customers on technical matters related to the products
- Together with IOD PM, plan and organize engineering activities for the successful completion of sold projects
- Ensure on-time delivery and quality of engineering packages
- Work with procurement to review and approve vendor information drawings and documentation
- Supervise technical answers to the RFI’s / NCR´s from suppliers and customers
- Manage all engineering releases to Procurement Planning required for a particular project schedule across all engineering disciplines
- Coordinate closely and provide guidance for any work assigned to indirect engineering staff
- Provides technical project updates and reporting as required
Product Engineering
- Responsible to contribute to, support, and adhere to design standards, guide specifications, and design control procedures
- Manage engineering support and deliverables of assigned R&D projects
- Work with GPLM and R&D on new concepts and improvements to existing product and next generation products
- Participate actively in Lessons Learned and follow through on actions identified
- Provide technical training and support to R&D, procurement, professional service, spare/wear parts, RPLM, and other teams
- Identify and drive product updates and continuous improvement initiatives
Product Improvement & Support
- Actively support proposals as required including reviewing customer specifications
- Actively support Product & Service Business Line functions as needed
- Support technical evaluation of suppliers (if applicable)
- Identify and support in analysis of complex design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures
Required Education and Skillsets:
Education and experience
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- Professional Engineering registration is preferred.
- Minimum 10 experience within the design and development of large industrial equipment.
- Proficient in engineering design fundamentals: machine design, mechanics of materials and structural analysis, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication systems, drive trains, fatigue, vibration, fluid mechanics, etc.
- Good working knowledge of standard steel fabrication, casting and other manufacturing processes.
- Proficient with engineering design tools (AutoCad, Solidworks, FEA-ANSYS, etc.).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
