The Principal Engineer shall be accountable for technical leadership in the delivery of engineering activities within their area of expertise. They shall be an experienced engineer capable of acting as a subject-matter expert, providing technical sign-off for deliverables, setting technical and quality strategy, and providing technical leadership to more junior team members. As a senior technical leader they shall bear specific responsibility for ensuring the ongoing application of safe methods of work, safe design practices, and application of Ameresco quality processes.
The Principal Engineer shall be accountable for leadership and delivery of activities as follows:
- Production of technical deliverables supporting core business activities as dictated by project requirements, typically including:
- Modelling and analysis of energy efficiency technologies, design strategies, and controls, related to end uses for retail, commercial and industrial site and buildings.
- Collection and analysis of monitored site data on performance of systems.
- Feasibility studies, Assessment of existing system configuration and operation at client sites. Compilation and analysis of data.
- Conceptual design of energy related projects .
- Preparation of final report and presentation Scheme Design (Front End Design).
- Further definition of conceptual design from feasibility stage including on-site assessments as necessary Finalisation of scheme selection.
- Preparation of engineering calculations and documentation, including:
- Process design documents (e.g. Design Basis, PFD, H&MB, ELD).
- Safety reviews (e.g. Design Risk Assessment, HAZOP, SIL Assessment).
- Equipment specification and selection.
- Calculations (e.g. pressure drop, relief valves, equipment sizing).
- Plant layout drawings.
- Technical support throughout procurement and construction process for utilities projects including:
- Technical scope of works for sub-contractors Interface with suppliers.
- Technical queries.
- Approval of design changes .
- Resolution of issues.
- Site visits.
- Technical support to commissioning of utilities projects including:
- Preparation of commissioning plan.
- Lead interactive planning sessions with client/sub-contractors.
- Preparation of IQ/OQ/PQ protocols.
- Lead commissioning team on site Execution of commissioning protocols
- Project sign off.
- General Duties:
- Technical supervision and mentoring of engineering staff within area of expertise.
- Development of quality standards in their area of expertise, contributing to the company’s Integrated Management System.
- To update the company work monitoring systems with accurate details.
- Assist in improving operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Support to sales and business development, with a commercial awareness for how Engineering works fit in to the organisation’s strategy.
