This hub provides critical functions, meeting the growing demand of Moderna’s global business operations. We're inviting professionals from around the world to join our mission and contribute to the future of mRNA medicines.
Moderna is looking for a hands-on, impact-driven Principal Platform Engineer who will play a vital role in building the foundation for application development across the organization. This is a highly technical, individual contributor position within our Warsaw hub that collaborates directly with developers ("Builders") to provide scalable, secure, and user-focused DevX and Cloud Infrastructure solutions. You will define and evolve Moderna’s platform architecture, design composable Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks, and help ensure our developer platforms are optimized for reliability, observability, and cost efficiency. With an ownership mindset and a deep obsession for quality, you’ll enable the rapid delivery of critical software tools and frameworks supporting Moderna's engineering ecosystem.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Your key responsibilities will be:
Designing and evolving Moderna’s platform architecture strategy for secure, scalable, and developer-friendly cloud environments.
Architecting and provisioning cloud resources using Infrastructure-as-Code tools with a focus on automation, reliability, and performance.
Building reusable and composable IaC modules and frameworks to standardize provisioning processes.
Partnering with business development, security, and cloud teams to ensure alignment between platform capabilities and business or compliance requirements.
Developing and maintaining clear documentation, frameworks, and tools that support Moderna’s engineering and development community.
Your responsibilities will also include:
Engaging directly with application developers (Builders) to identify platform-wide needs and influence cross-team design decisions.
Scaling and optimizing Kubernetes-based platforms for reliability, observability, and cost efficiency.
Implementing and improving CI/CD pipelines for safe and rapid software delivery.
Leading mentoring and technical education efforts around DevOps, automation, and cloud-native best practices.
Staying at the forefront of cloud computing and web development innovations, contributing to Moderna’s culture of continuous learning.
Ensuring platform consistency across the engineering organization by shaping long-term technical direction and decision-making frameworks.
Contributing to the creation of Generative AI-enabled developer tools and frameworks as part of the ongoing transformation of Moderna’s technology platforms.
The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role:
“We behave like owners. The solutions we’re building go beyond any job description.”
In this role, you will own the platform from design through execution. You’ll step beyond your immediate tasks to consider the end-user experience, long-term maintainability, and strategic impact of your work on Moderna’s engineering landscape.“We digitize everywhere possible using the power of code to maximize our impact on patients.”
You will be at the forefront of Moderna’s push toward automation and digitization, using Infrastructure-as-Code and DevX tooling to accelerate platform capabilities that ultimately impact the speed and quality of our mRNA innovation pipeline.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications):
BS/BA degree in Computer Science with 8+ years of relevant work experience.
Proficiency in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
Expertise with AWS or other major cloud providers for designing, deploying, and managing production-grade infrastructure.
Deep experience using Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks to automate and standardize cloud resource provisioning.
Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating containerized systems using Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
Strong background in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to support reliable delivery.
Proven ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives, influence architecture direction, and mentor engineers.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Proficient in Infrastructure-as-Code tools that utilize conventional programming languages, such as CDK or Pulumi.
Skilled at implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters.

What We Do
At Moderna, we believe messenger RNA, or mRNA, is the “software of life.”
Every cell in the body uses mRNA to provide real-time instructions to make the proteins necessary to drive all aspects of biology, including in human health and disease.
Given its essential role, we believe mRNA could be used to create a new category of medicines with significant potential to improve the lives of patients.
We are pioneering a new class of medicines made of messenger RNA, or mRNA. The potential implications of using mRNA as a drug are significant and far-reaching and could meaningfully improve how medicines are discovered, developed and manufactured.
