OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE
The Platform Engineer for Shared Infrastructure is technology specialist who is able to design and implement next generation FTP Infrastructure platform engineering capabilities across the end-to-end enablement lifecycle (i.e. development, testing, release, validation, and support).

  • Provide specialized knowledge and expertise in Infrastructure platform engineering activities related to platform family.
  • Ensure focus on platform engineering quality by adopting consistent development, testing, debugging and documenting practices for effective communication of capabilities.
  • Execute activities based on Scaled Agile Framework PI Planning framework.
  • Build large scale platform capabilities leveraged by product or platform teams in a self-service model.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for building and maintaining performant, scalable, secure, resilient, and compliant engineering platform capabilities.
  • Develop and implement platform capabilities based on platform architecture roadmap.
  • Contribute to platform architecture roadmap, in collaboration with platform manager, platform owner, product manager, and platform architecture leads.
  • Adopt engineering governance structures and best practices for platforms.
  • Adopt platform engineering execution lifecycle (planning / scheduling / building / testing / deploying / documenting), and monitor progress to ensure that engineering activities are completed on time, on budget, and with proper engineering practices and quality processes.
  • Help identify new technology platform capabilities for best fit purpose, and outline options for cost effective, incremental, and resilient implementation approach.
  • Contribute to platform system demos in collaboration with product management leads, to communicate progress and value of FTP Infrastructure platform capabilities being built.
  • Support level 3 engineering activities for platforms.
  • Provision, manage and maintain the software infrastructure that supports platforms.

Knowledge of Agile SAFe, ITSM v4, and modern engineering processes.

  • Familiarity with information management practices, regulatory requirements, and global data privacy laws, especially those that uniquely effect the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Ability to work through complex technological situations and propose proper engineering implementation options for decision across divers teams.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, and/or Management Information Systems from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of more experience with Agile methods / methodologies, and leading SCRUM / Lean / Kanban teams.
  • 5+ years or more of relevant professional experience as a technology engineer.
  • Proven track record of getting things done in complex organizations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in an agile and rapid changing environment with high quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrated presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to think outside the box for innovative engineering capabilities.
  • Knowledge of information management practices, regulatory requirements and global data privacy laws related to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of IT Service Management, Service Operations, and Service Release (ITIL v4 and ITSM).
  • Proven experience of DevOps CI/CD technologies and lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cloud IaaS and PaaS technology environments (AWS and Azure preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of micro-services concepts, API integration enablement, container technologies and services (Kubernetes based preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience deploying infrastructure using private hosting solutions (compute / storage / networking - Cisco UCS, Dell IPDA / Avamar or similar backup solution, Nasuni file sharing, Windows FS/DFS
  • 10+ years' experience in Virtualization Administration Experience ( L3 Level)
  • 5+ years of experience using public cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure required).
  • Proven experience with platform engineering automation lifecycle, leveraging infrastructure as code, configuration management, orchestration, modern patterns, APIs, and site reliability engineering concepts.


Preferred:

  • Experience working with virtual / Agile teams in different locations, aligning and adapting different work, culture, and communication styles.
  • Experience with scripted deployment process, tools, and lifecycle (i.e. Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, Python preferred).
  • Experience working in a lean and agile software delivery team model.
  • Relevant and accredited certifications pertaining to the role.
