Principal Platform Engineer – Infrastructure Architect

The DIRECTV Data Analytics and Operations team is looking for a curious, talented and highly motivated Infrastructure Architect to lead the architecture and optimization of our multi-cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in cloud platform design, automation, networking, and security, with a passion for building scalable, secure, and high-performance infrastructure solutions.

In this role, you will work closely with data engineering, DevOps, security, and business teams to design and implement next-generation infrastructure solutions that drive efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. You will have the autonomy to innovate and leverage cutting-edge technologies to support our evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cloud Platform Strategy & Architecture (30%)

• Develop and execute a multi-cloud infrastructure strategy, ensuring alignment with business and operational goals.
• Architect secure, scalable, and resilient cloud solutions leveraging AWS and Azure.
• Optimize cloud costs, performance, and reliability while ensuring compliance with security best practices.

2. Infrastructure Automation & IaC (25%)

• Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible to streamline infrastructure provisioning and automation.
• Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments to improve agility and operational efficiency.

3. Networking & Security (20%)

• Define and implement secure cloud networking architectures, including VPCs, VPNs, Direct Connect, and ExpressRoute for hybrid connectivity.
• Establish security policies, IAM controls, and encryption mechanisms to safeguard critical infrastructure.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to address security vulnerabilities and compliance requirements (ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR).

4. High Availability & Disaster Recovery (15%)

• Architect highly available and fault-tolerant cloud solutions to ensure business continuity.
• Define and implement disaster recovery (DR) and backup strategies, optimizing RTO/RPO for mission-critical workloads.

5. Performance Monitoring & Innovation (10%)

• Utilize monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana) to track and optimize infrastructure performance.
• Research and implement emerging technologies such as Kubernetes, AI/ML, and edge computing to enhance infrastructure efficiency.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud computing, and system architecture, with a track record of designing and optimizing enterprise-scale cloud environments.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS and Azure cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, and security.
• 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation, using Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible.
• 5+ years of experience designing secure, high-performance cloud networking and security architectures.
• 5+ years of experience architecting high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Strong scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, or Shell scripting for automation and integration.

Preferred Certifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
• AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
• Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP)

Education

• Master’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, or a related field preferred.

The Base Salary range displayed below reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for each of DIRECTV's 4 (four) US Labor Market Zones. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

DIRECTV WAGE ZONES: $116,375 - $211,255

Low (N1): $116,375 - $174,515

Mid (N2): $122,500 - $183,700

High (N3): $134,750 - $202,070

Top (N4): $140,875 - $211,255
