The role translates business requirements, operational needs, architectural direction, and customer data requirements into secure, resilient, standardized, and globally scalable solutions that enable operational visibility and reliable delivery of operational data.

Reporting to the Director, Telemetry Engineering and Operations, this position works closely with the Senior Manager, Operational Technology Architecture and serves as the primary engineering counterpart for converting reference architectures, standards, and roadmaps into production-ready designs and supportable implementations. The role partners with Data Center Operations technical operations teams, Operational Data Platforms, facility engineering, construction teams, and vendors to support facility installations, expansions, retrofits, upgrades, commissioning, and modernization while maintaining clear separation from day-to-day facility operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the engineering design, integration, implementation, commissioning, and lifecycle improvement of globally repeatable OT, telemetry, and SCADA solutions across multi-site data center environments.
  • Translate business requirements, operational needs, architectural direction, and customer data delivery requirements into solution designs, technical specifications, implementation plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Serve as the principal engineering authority for complex telemetry initiatives, leading technical reviews, resolving cross-domain issues, and providing hands-on support for critical implementations and escalations.
  • Partner with the Senior Manager, Operational Technology Architecture to implement reference architectures, integration patterns, technology standards, security requirements, and modernization roadmaps.
  • Work with Data Center Operations technical operations teams to plan and support facility installations, expansions, retrofits, upgrades, platform refreshes, cutovers, commissioning, and operational turnover.
  • Coordinate with facility engineering, construction, vendors, and regional operations teams to ensure integrations meet defined standards, testing requirements, support models, and operational readiness criteria.
  • Develop end-to-end designs spanning field devices, EPMS/BMS platforms, industrial protocols, edge connectivity, Ignition SCADA, messaging services, operational data platforms, cloud services, APIs, and consuming applications.
  • Engineer and support secure edge-to-cloud telemetry and client data delivery patterns using Azure-based messaging and integration services.
  • Design and govern telemetry models, namespace and tag structures, alarming strategies, data normalization, quality indicators, buffering and delivery patterns, and integration interfaces.
  • Define engineering standards for availability, redundancy, monitoring, backup and recovery, capacity, patching, upgrades, certificate management, cybersecurity, and platform lifecycle management.
  • Lead technical evaluations, proofs of concept, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning, operational readiness reviews, and production turnover activities.
  • Support the expansion of Ignition capabilities into BMS-related monitoring and integration use cases while maintaining Data Center Operations ownership of facility operation and control.
  • Evaluate design alternatives and commercial technologies across performance, availability, scalability, security, operational complexity, lifecycle supportability, delivery needs, and cost.
  • Troubleshoot failures involving facility-system interfaces, industrial networks, SCADA applications, messaging services, data pipelines, and enterprise or customer integrations, and drive durable corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain solution designs, engineering diagrams, interface specifications, configuration standards, test plans, commissioning procedures, runbooks, and technical decision records.
  • Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance, promote reusable engineering patterns, and improve the consistency and supportability of global telemetry implementations.

KNOWLEDGE & ATTRIBUTES

  • Deep knowledge of OT, telemetry, SCADA, industrial automation, systems integration, and operational data acquisition principles.
  • Expert ability to convert business, operational, and customer requirements into practical engineering solutions and clearly communicate design decisions and trade-offs.
  • Strong knowledge of Ignition SCADA, including gateway architecture, integration, alarming, historian, visualization, security, deployment, and lifecycle support.
  • Working knowledge of Niagara Framework and BMS/EPMS platforms, with emphasis on integration, monitoring, supportability, and lifecycle improvement rather than facility operations.
  • Strong knowledge of MQTT-based telemetry, cloud messaging, edge-to-cloud integration, API-based data delivery, and scalable operational data delivery patterns.
  • Knowledge of Azure-based messaging, integration, IoT, identity, monitoring, and data services used to deliver operational or customer data.
  • Strong knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, and OPC UA.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, gateways, sensors, field-device integration, electrical and mechanical monitoring systems, and commissioning practices.
  • Knowledge of SQL-based platforms, historians, time-series data, telemetry modeling, normalization, quality management, and ingestion pipelines.

  • Knowledge of resilient, observable, and supportable platform design for large-scale, multi-site deployments.
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure systems, including UPS, generators, cooling systems, PDUs, switchgear, and environmental monitoring.
  • Knowledge of ISA-95, IEC 62443, defense-in-depth, least privilege, and OT cybersecurity principles.
  • Strong technical leadership, consulting, facilitation, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS
