Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Network Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future for the Joint Interoperability Test and Training Center - Nellis. This position will be located at Nellis AFB, NV.

The Network Engineer in this role must possess in-depth knowledge of networking solutions and experience in the definition, design, integration, test, and certification of related hardware and software requirements. and will be responsible for one or more of the following:

  • Designs and plans network communications systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
  • Conducts testing of network design.
  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • Design and develop network architectures, perform hardware integration and testing, and requirements analysis. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
  • Document designs using detailed schematics, diagrams and specifications
  • Collaborate with engineers and program stakeholders to integrate network solutions
  • Technical management of program strategic partners and suppliers, including development, acquisition, acceptance, qualification, system integration and test support
  • Building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and selection
  • Review documents from the supplier’s development effort and support supplier technical interchange meetings and design reviews
  • Work seamlessly with other contractors and government employees towards a common goal and mission

A successful Network Engineer has good leadership skills and understands the scope of the work and the impact of the work on other teams, consistently brings up concerns, issues and risks to program and technical leadership and holds the team to a high level of technical rigor.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field with 5 or more years of engineering experience or MS with 3 years or more year of engineering experience or Ph.D. with 2 or more years of engineering experience
  • Possess a DOD 8570 certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar network/security certifications
  • Active in scope DoD Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR) (not needed to start)
  • Understanding of IP4 network design, including IP subnetting and routing protocols
  • Knowledge the OSI model in relation to network equipment
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot common network devices; Required: Cisco IOS
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot common network perimeter defense devices: Cisco, Panorama, Etc..
  • Demonstrated understanding of IP address planning, VLANs, ACLs, encapsulation, switching, routing, QoS, service and application protocols
  • Experience performing troubleshooting with traffic capture tools; such as Wireshark and tcpdump
  • Familiar with Cisco Unified Communications Programs: CUCM, CMS, CMM and their operating systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with authentication and data encryption methods, to include securing communications at either the data-link or network layer
  • Experience with NSA Type1 Encryptors: KG-175 series and GEM management software
  • Experience with embedded systems, Windows, Unix and/or Linux operating systems, non-Cisco routing environments, single board computers, servers and Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions
  • Working knowledge of cyber security and Risk Managed Framework (RMF), STIGs and associated elements
  • Exposure to Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocol
  • Exposure to Ansible Network Automation

Salary Range: $93,000.00 - $139,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
